Another beautiful warm sunny day in west Georgia/east Alabama.

A good day starts with good coffee.

Make it a good one in spite of what the rest of humankind is up to.

In the office today.
Weekends go by way too fast.
Boss says I need to catch up on required training.
I guess my morning is planned then.
How much money does one need to retire on?
Thats the question of the day.

Be safe out there kids.

Came in earlier than normal for a requested walk-through of a site. Found out while tending to other things that nah, we aren't doing that today. Sorry.

Not surprising considering what a mess things were late Friday.

Good luck with that. I don't have time tomorrow morning and am not making time today.

Lots of stuff going on. Gotta get into it.

How much money does one need to retire

Well, I have been retired 7 years and growing my net worth, I think the key is have enough passive income so that you can live the lifestyle you want without taking from your asset base investments.

So a specific number is difficult to provide. Of course, the first rule is to be totally debt free.

Whenever you can retire do it and enjoy every day it is truly a blessing

And it waits for no one…….except maybe Keith Richards.

Difficult it is!

If it was just me, I could retire VERY SOON. But, with the wife and her ideas of retirement, and having one more child needing to reach financial independence. I need 2-3 more years of working.

It's on my mind everyday now.

Yep. Structure the income stream so that you don't have to get much into investments: pension/or 401k + SS and leave investments alone if possible to grow.

In St Louis for a major external audit this week
The one I'm stuck with is cranky AF. We're basically at "it depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is."
I like St Louis but it's hot and humid AF over here, how is it worse then Charleston?!
Need to scare up a little coffee during our next break

  • Slept good! Work up at like 5:45AM but didn't get up til about 6:15Am. Read a book until hubs woke up.
  • Homemade Starbs knockoff coffee and HEB kolaches.
  • Meeting overload today
  • Tons to do this week - first week back in the office and will be out again all next week.
  • Bathroom demolition beginning as I type this.
  • Taking out the big tub and putting in a BIG shower. Basically the shower will take the entire tub area, and then about half of the shower area before. Putting in a small cabinet in the other half of the shower. Also getting new floors, countertops and paint. Woohoo!
All this talk about retirement - I think of it often and I'm mid-40's. We are trying to diversify as much as we can so that we can retire early.

Do you ever audit ag stuff? Since scimi left I don't think I know any literal bean counters. And as a graduate of a business school from a large cow college, I feel like I should know some bean counters.

Downtown STL is awesome. Loads to do downtown around Busch Stadium, although the Cardinals are pitiful this year.

Oil change this morning and dentist's appointment for Benny this afternoon. I took a vacation day as I thought I might drive up to Moberly and ask for Tanya's ring in person once my car was done. Oil change is taking a long time though. Just called them, and my service tech is at lunch. Have to have the car back by 2:30 to get Benny to the dentist on time.

Playing Bad Piggies on my PC. There was a Windows release of it back in the day. The activation servers have long since shut down, but I just found a python script that successfully activated it. Applied Physics in this game!!

Aerospace, on the developmental side. Counting plies in composite maybe? It's AS9100, boring stuff.

I'm taking my coworkers to Zia's on The Hill. Union Station is really nice too though. I'm descended from some of the people who founded the city so there's a bunch of random stuff I'd go check out if time allowed.

Thats the question of the day.

Be safe out there kids.

I've been wrestling with that question a TON lately. So much so that I started a thread on the B&I Forum. Have gotten a lot of interesting responses. Basically everything from "not much at all" to $5 million and up.
I think I am getting close to my answer (not in terms of a dollar figure but in terms of an age/career inflection point).

- Third bid for the new roof secured
- Visit from Gus; hadn't seen him in several days!
- Built a shoe rack and moved Uncle Mark's shoes out of my closet and into his.
- Now I've retired to the porch

Expensive day. Between oil, brakes, and new tires, I'm out nearly $1500 for my car. Just got to the dentist. Can't wait to see what this costs me.

I will be able to start collecting my pension in a little under three years and even though it will be quite substantial passive income, I'm still absolutely terrified about surviving true retirement.

I did, but I'd already priced tires at Dobbs and Plaza Tire (no Discount Tire in Missouri). I knew going in that I needed new tires. Nissan was competitive. I also needed an alignment, which I hadn't realized. Fingers crossed I don't have to buy anything but gas for the next 7500 miles.
