We were at Brooks Lodge in early September. The sockeye runs this year were huge and the bears were gorging on them. Chunk got his lower jaw broken by another bear earlier this year. It is amazing how well he could still catch and eat fish with his jaw busted and not being able to fully close his mouth. Those are some tough animals.

Brooks Falls is certainly in my Top 5 outdoors experiences! I'd love to go back. I have a few other things to do the next two years so I'll start on the lottery for 2028.

It is an amazing experience being that close to those huge bears. It is incredible watching the different fishing techniques, the way they interact with each other, subadults wrestling, cubs learning to fish…. Good luck with getting drawn the next time you apply!
