-Up early. iPhone alarm is still giving me fits even though I fixed some settings.
-On the road to Mesquite for a softball tourney.
-Dinner with my moms last night at Hopdoddy
-Sad today. I was just telling my mom bad news comes in 3's. Well this week a colleague was diagnosed with cancer, the next day another colleagues adult daughter died (left behind 2 young kids) and today found out my one of my daughters softball teammates dad died and leaves behind 3 kids. I'm heartbroken for all of them.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Landfill run this morning. Truck hasn't been driven in two weeks so it's time to get it on the road a bit.

Stop at the feed/pet supply store for a couple of things.

HEB stop before it gets too crazy.

Need a haircut but my hair gal isn't back in until Monday.

Amazingly I have a black A&M polo for the game tonight. Was going to have to wear one of my black Frogman shirts otherwise.

Chores until time to head to campus and hike to the tailgate of my best friend. Then head to the game.

  • Finally getting to chilly range in the mornings. Mixed feelings on this
  • Battle of the Moths rages on. Victory uncertain
  • Cat is really starting to show her age and it's bumming me out hard.
  • Same with me tbh. Jumped off truck bed a few days ago and felt like lightning shot through the top of my foot. That's a new one for me. And I'd need like 4 hands to count all the broken/fractured toes, metatarsals and ankles I've gone through. Still sore.
Thoughts are with you and your losses, JMac.

What's for lunch?

Do the day, yall

Coolish (60 degree low-high of 77) in west Georgia/east Alabama but brilliant sunshine otherwise. 3rd ranked Tarleton (FCS) hosts Southern Utah in Stephenville today.

A good day starts with good coffee.

Make it a good one in spite of what the rest of humankind is up to.

Alcohol now legal in Stephenville. I used to to have to drive to Proctor for beer.

FCS football is tons of fun to watch. Might turn on ESPN+ for this.

This ain't new.

His players say he's mean or too tough on them.

Maybe.

Or this generation isn't used to being told something they don't want to hear. Like "no" or "you can't look at your phone and have headphones on 24/7"

In high school, we had to drive 35 miles from Beaumont to Vinton, LA to buy our alcohol.

Mr. Hebert would check us out and ask "How's things at Kelly High School boys?"

Helped a woman at the landfill. She was struggling to get all the trash out of the bed of her Dodge pickup. Lots of drywall and some lumber, a window frame and most of the glass. An old shop vac. Assorted other stuff.

It appears to me that her husband does handyman work or remodel work. She gets to load the trash onto the truck and take it to the landfill.

She had no gloves and was having a tough time. It was a full load.

We made short work of it. Then she took the bottom of a push broom with a short handle and pushed the smaller pieces of drywall and dust and stuff out of the bed.

This was not her first time.

I hope he pays her for doing this chore for him!

I coach a high school mountain bike team so I went and scouted a new route at Red Rocks Open Space to see if I can take them on it. Took about 2 hours but now I have a perfect route for next week.

Then I mowed the lawn.

About to leave for Casa Bonita up in Denver for my kids Bday party. Should be a good time.

I don't know that weather could be more perfect than it is today.

I don't know that I knew you were from there. My brother used to drive to the Lake Charles nightclubs lol. We lived in Port Neches.

Where is a good place for seafood in Neches/ Port Arthur?

Working on the new power plant in Bridge City and have been scared to try most places due to the front facade.

Don't need any fancy, just good.

I spent many nights in Vinton. We'd go to Stars, Club F/X, or occasionally the Texas Longhorn Club (none of us liked country, but the place sold Long Island Teas in a chugger for $5). In a pinch, we'd hit the bar at the Best Western in Vinton. They had a bartender who called himself Gay Paul, and man was it sleazy. They sold to minors though, so we liked it. Rita wiped this hotel off of the face of the earth. Left only the foundation. Tiny Vinton, LA had a crazy number of bars and nightclubs at that time (1988-92). This was age 16 to 20 for me.

I had friends who used to go to a club named for a street (maybe 12th St?) in Lake Charles. I never went there myself. It was an extra 25 miles to L.C..

One disclaimer about my underage stupidity. One of my group of friends was named Andrew. Andrew *loved* to go clubbing, and he didn't drink. We always had a sober ride.

I haven't lived there since 2001.

Sartin's was my fave but it's closed down. Schooner has been open forever so they must be doing something right.

My mom loves Juanita's fish camp, but my guess is it isn't upscale seafood, more like fried fish, etc.

Pompano was always good but when I lived/worked there it was a private country club. I know it's not anymore.

Edited to add I had Floyd's in Beaumont last year and thought it was pretty decent. It's not fancy.

It went way beyond that when he was at A&M, at least. Emotional abuse is what comes to mind based on what one of his players has told me. Like a psycho girlfriend.

Thanks, I have tried The Schooner twice and been underwhelmed for the price. Decent food, small portions and not willing to swap a soup/salad for a side.

I have also tried Tia Juanitas twice. It was good, price was not bad, will go again.

Beaumont a little too far for just an evening trip. I did see a Ralph & Kacoos in Beaumont. Do you know if this is the same Ralph& Kacoos that is in Monroe, LA? That has always been good food.

Appreciate the info.

R&K is a chain. I went to one in Baton Rouge during Spring Break in 1991.
