Wild Uber experience today on way to airport. What would you do?

First, some context.
I like to give myself about 30 more min than I really need when heading to the airport to account for anything unexpected. I also scheduled the pickup to happen at an intersection in the neighborhood so the driver can't pinpoint where I live. Can never be too careful.

So today I'm in an uber and about 1/3 of the way through the ride. Driver has a 4.98 rating.

So far, the driver had apologized as he needed to get on a phone call. I couldn't care less about that, NBD. On phone for 2 min.

Then says "sorry boss I gotta get gas". Again, not a huge deal and why I budget extra time for unexpected things like this. Why as a driver would you accept an airport ride when you knowingly need gas, I dunno, but fine, I'll give the guy a break.

So he pulls off into a gas station, I'm working on my laptop, and I notice he starts pumping the gas and never turned the engine off (WTF???) and proceeds to run to use the bathroom before I can catch him to say anything.
So I get out of the ticking time bomb and as he comes back, I let him know he left his engine on and needs to turn it off immediately. "Sorry about that boss, I forgot"

So then we're on our way, and he's going 95 on the interstate at several points until I make it to the airport.

I've never been punitive Uber driver reporting/ratings before. I appreciate that the majority of them, especially the younger ones, likely don't have better opps at the moment and are likely in a bind in life.

So do you give the driver a good rating? Bad rating? Report safety/legal issue to Uber?

I haven't rated yet, although leaving the engine on while pumping gas has me leaning to report it. That's unforgivable in my book.
The rest of the stuff, even the speeding, I'm generally not too bothered by.

So what would you do?

I know, I know, cool story

Did you die?

Ratings are gay. BigTech doesn't need to know how I think.

I guess you didn't catch the mythbusters episode that showed it's perfectly safe to gas up with the engine running. I do it all the time so I don't have to deal with the infotainment system rebooting

Sounds wild!

And is leaving your car on while filling up really a big deal unless you are at a Costco? Ppl do it all the time

Did you have a reservation? Sometimes if they accept a reservation, even though the algorithm is supposed to give them trips near their next pickup, they get screwed over, and have to take a trip elsewhere (or a passenger changes a trip). This can affect their ability to fill up with gas on their way to pick you up.

As to why someone would pull over for gas when agreeing to an airport trip, you obviously were not their first pickup of the day, and they didn't want to stall out on the way to the airport.

As for leaving the engine on when pumping gas, did they have ac/climate control on? If it was left on for your comfort, it is a non-issue.

Were you watching the speedometer while he was driving to know he was going 95? Was he flying around other drivers?

Did you arrive on time? Was he speeding to ensure you arrived at your desired time?

If he was speeding to make sure you arrived on time, I wouldn't report anything or rate him low.

This is probably his job right now. Would you fire someone for the experience you had today? If the answer is no, just don't rate him at all, and go about your day. The way their system works, even a rating of 4 is bad, and result in their removal from the app.

OP sounds like a huge Karen. You paid a Somali immigrant 13 cents an hour after vehicle depreciation to drive you to the airport. What did you expect? If you want better service you have to pay for it.

I haven't reported anything, not yet

I always thought you weren't supposed to pump your gas with the engine on, so I learned something new

Nice editing after response, Stan

Can I please have the last 2 minutes of my life back? So this is all about letting your car run while pumping gas? K

Complaining about speeding? Really? I'd be mad if he wasn't speeding.

Nah, it wasn't a reservation. And yes, driver was weaving while 95, but again, I've never been punitive when rating drivers. In my thousand+ rides, I always have given 5 stars except for 2 instances I can remember in the last 12 years

What's unfortunate is I have a 4.94 passenger rating. I need to do better

What are y'all's passenger ratings?

Reminds me of the opening scene with the cab ride in "Old School." Since you came here looking for suggestions and all.

I mean. In a modern car you could pump gas onto the engine while running and it probably won't ignite. There should be no open spark.

Maybe the heat but the heat isn't going to ignite fumes.

Is filling the car up with gas while the engine running fuelish or not?

4.95 Stars

At this point I think I'm stuck at that given the amount of times I use Uber. Its going to be nearly impossible to bump it up

I'd rate them the 'top box' for overcoming multiple highly dangerous scenarios along the route and, despite the grave danger, delivering you to your appointed destination on time and in one piece. Not to mention giving you an experience to share multiple times in a social media setting.

What more could oe ask for??!?

It is extremely dangerous to leave the engine on while fueling. Just because people do it and nothing happens it only takes that one arching alternator are spark to catch the fumes.
It is highly suggested to turn on your blower before starting an inboard boat but lots of dumb butts forget and nothin happens but I have also seen a boat explode from it.
Driving 95 is irresponsible as well. Report him. You might save a life….and maybe he will learn something of operating a MV.
I'm sure all the " well that's ok" types would be the first ones to cry law suit if he killed or injured one of their family members in a car wreck.
