I got my kids iPhone 14's at the same time, one was 6 and the other 8. This was about 4 years ago. Put parental controls on both. Has been great being able to see them on findfriends and coordinate school things like pickup/drop off etc. Doesn't seem to be that uncommon among their age group now. Though some parents seem shocked we started them so young.

I gave my kids phones (flip phones, no apps) as freshman in HS. Only to coordinate drops. They got iPhones only as sophs.

Every time one of ours complains about my wife monitoring all of their texts and searches, I print out a copy of the bill and tell them, just start paying your share every month and you can do whatever you want.

Mine got one in either fifth or sixth grade when she started riding the bus. But it has always been our old iPhones. She's currently 15 about to be 16 and she does have a one year-old iPhone because her last one went to kaput. But generally, she gets our hand me downs.

I typically get one every two years because it's a partial business write off for me. So that's when she gets them.

This is what we did.

He got a smart phone his freshman year because he's in 3 sports plus band. The high school athletic department does all of their communications through SportsYou and the band uses the BAND app. It's just the way ISDs communicate these days.

My kids got smart phones for their birthday in 8th grade and seemed like they were the last of their classmates to get one. Most of their classmates got them sometime around 3rd grade, which we thought was ridiculous.

I have a 3rd grader who keeps asking for a phone. I don't understand why? She has a tablet for videos.

Got our son one when he turned 11. He had to earn it. He is 17 now and he kept the same phone until last January

My kids started asking for a phone when the older one was about 8. I told them then, and I tell them now, I got a phone at 15, therefore you can get a phone at 15. You can use a friend's phone to call if you need something.

Firmly believe if you're children are getting cell phones before 16, you're neglecting them. 16 ONLY if they need it for work. Block porn for sure. Control those apps.
