Long long really long time ago I had a very nice Rebel and lenses. Moving and life and it is gone. I spent a crap ton on film and accessories.

Wanting to dive back in with a digital this time. Is Canon still a good name in photography? I probably won't use a 10th of the camera's capabilities. But I really like to go overboard on hobbies.

I hate Walmart, can tolerate Best Buy and avoid Amazon on more expensive purchases.

Is $1000-$1500 a good range? Where in b/cs is the most knowledgeable sales folks?

Full frame mirrorless DSLRs are where it's at now. I have a 4-year-old Canon EOS RP and like it for the most part. It is one step up from the Rebel.series but it is not that much more expensive.

For Canon cameras the mirrorless cameras are the R series and use a different lens mount than the Rebels. You can buy an adapter if you need to. You can find some really good old used lenses online.

Sony actually makes really good mirrorless DSLR cameras at a reasonable price. The a-series is highly regarded.

If I were you I'd get on YouTube and watch some review videos.

A lot of people also love Nikon. Can't say one way or the other because I've never had occasion to use one. I know a lot of people like them.

No, most start about movies and shows, then devolve into an F16 level cesspool about whether Hollywoke is trying to make our children gay.

We spend a ton of money every year on pro photographers taking catalog pictures of our boats running on lakes, bays and rivers. They all use Cannon cameras if that makes any difference.

Canon and Nikon have been industry standards for years. Sony kinda thrown in as well.

Second the B&H Photo reco above Have bought 3 Canons from them. Very reputable. They also sell used stuff that is guaranteed. You might find deals that match them but not usually beat them.

You can probably by a camera comparable to your rebel for less than $500 with a lens or two.

Just dropped $250 on an order this morning (film and chemicals). Beware OP, this place is the ultimate candy store for A/V geeks. I have sent suitcases of cash to them for over a decade now...

My BIL is kinda a semi pro photographer. My wife is doing some wildlife photography and he put on this place. We got some high end Cannon equipment really reasonable. Pricing was better than BHP in many instances. In addition they were really good folks to work with.

One of my regrets is losing an amazing picture I lucked into. Out at research park taking pictures with very expensive b&w film. (Believe I bought it off a photographer on 29th street.)

A C-130 was taking off from Easterwood and I caught it over the trees.

Is it safe to buy from a pawn shop? I was looking for a moutain bike and rifle last weekend and saw they all carry a pretty dang good selection of cameras?

I assume there are no warranties with a pawn shop. I can compare prices quickly to see if it is a good deal.

Just remember when in the darkroom:

Everything is reversed.
Something which appears light is dark
Something that appears red is blue
Something that may normally goes in the front now goes in the back.



Err… maybe just stick to everything is reversed.
