the barracks kept the deposit because they said the place wasn't clean. i was there and we hired cleaners. might as well have not hired the cleaners if they were going to keep the deposit anyway! it's BS.

they should be reported to someone, i don't know who.

We had the management company try to pull that on us when my roommate and I moved out at graduation. Unfortunately for them my roommates dad was a lawyer. You may have to go down that route but then it becomes a wash in cost.

Teacher Wife 82's uncle was a rather big name lawyer in Dallas. A letter from him stopped it when her landlord did the same thing in College Station.

The Barracks is well known for individual ownership and poor management.

We had to fight them both to get our deposit back. They try to strong-arm the college kids. They tried to 'make a deal' with my son where 'although the damages were more than the deposit, they would settle by just keeping the deposit'. However, there was no damage (at all).

I had our corporate lawyer write a one page letter with a bunch of legal jargon, and guess what? My son was fully refunded his entire deposit the next day. I'd never recommend the Barracks to anyone.

Normal wear and tear on carpet and paint is not something that can be deducted from a security deposit, and neither is carpet cleaning. You should have your lawyer buddy draft a letter IMO. Ask for an itemized bill as well, as previously mentioned in this thread.

She should have purchased a small carton of milk, opened it and placed it in a heater vent as far back as possible.

Better than fish in the backseat... raw shrimp in the hubcaps.

The old days of hubcaps were glorious.

Stink bait on the bottom of the oil pan works.

My late father was a colossal a**hole. After Mom died, he eventually made enemies with most of his neighbors, particularly Lee, the Cajun next door.

A couple of years after Mom died, he and his new wife sold the house in Beaumont and moved to Corpus. He had an estate sale. This was in August. The evening before the sale, Lee peels 100 lbs of shrimp, and rolls the peelings out to the curb. Dad's afternoon/evening estate sale took place with hot shrimp peelings on the curb about ten feet from his driveway. I can't imagine how bad that smelled.
