What is your menu for the big day? I was overruled on eating at a restaurant or ordering from Central Market, so menu planning is up to me.

My brother is making a pork wellington and cranberry sauce

I'm responsible for... *checks notes* everything else.

If you are responsible for everything else, then why did you get shot down on CM feast?

my reason for wanting to do something easy is that we spend the early morning to mid afternoon volunteering at a shelter, but according to the powers that be "we can cook" so I'm overruled

we don't do turkey usually because the bbq team from our church makes the best turkey ever that we serve at the shelter so might as well do something different. And the person that overruled me doesn't like it that much and I'm a pushover.

People who vote you down should contribute more than two dishes.

I wish we were going to a buffet at some hotel here in San Antonio. We went to the JW Marriott for Easter, and it was really good, but not great. Six people, and it was $400, if I remember correctly. The best hotel Thanksgiving buffet we went to has been the Hilton in College Station, but that has probably been 10 years ago. My FIL is getting everything from Central Market this Tday.

I would rather just sleep late, go somewhere about 2:00, pig out like the hog I am, come home, sleep it off, and watch football with nothing to clean up. It's not that I help clean up, but that I almost feel guilty having to listen to my wife and kids clean the kitchen, and I have to turn the TV up louder than I like so that I can't hear the cleaning up.

in his defense, pork wellington is time intensive and expensive to make

I'm in charge of the bar.

Besides usual wine, beer, and spirits, I'll have two punches (a colonial punch and a Tom and Jerry), a cranberry aperol spritz for the ladies, and a Texas Old Fashioned (Garrison brothers, Imperial sugar, local honey, and Rio Grande Valley Citrus).

It's not difficult, time consuming, or expensive. It's one of my go-to dishes when I need something nice and I don't want something difficult, time consuming, or expensive IIRC it was one of my first food posts ever on TexAgs

Just Benny and me. Will get turkey breast, white bread, and mayo. We can have turkey sandwiches. I'll watch football, but he will be playing video games.

Going super traditional with the menu and cooking literally everything this year after a couple of years of doing a combination of catering and cooking. Just finished making turkey stock about an hour ago and my kitchen smells amazing.

Smoked turkey
Smoked ham
Turkey gravy
Cranberry sauce
Garlic mashed potatoes
Balsamic glazed brussels sprouts
Cornbread dressing
Yeast rolls
Pumpkin pie
Maple bourbon pecan pie
Apple pie

I *do* want to order a pecan pie from Texas. Benny and I both love pecan pie, but the ones in Missouri are always disappointing.

Recommendations? My first thought was the Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana.

My grandmother's recipe, adopted by Jim Goode's mother and he took it from there.

Those are $60 pecan pies. I'm sure they're good, but I could buy a lot of things for $60.

Pecan Pies are one of the easiest desserts you can make if you use a frozen crust. There is zero reason to buy one at any price

I don't want to make one, but I want to eat one. That's a good reason, unless you're suggesting I steal one.

Ordered a smoked turkey and my mom is bringing a ham, biscuits, and sweet potatoes. A friend gifts us homemade cranberry sauce each year.

I am making cornbread stuffing, gb casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, and pies. Buy or make rolls.

Can you buy giblets for gravy if you're not homemaking a turkey?

Have I forgotten anything?

Trouble's pecan pie!

Or a pecan pie from Costco. Don't believe anyone who tells you the Spec's pecan pie is good. That **** is dryer than saltine crackers

Yall are making me hungry

Ever since graduating TAMU and moving away from TX, never have celebrated Thanksgiving with extended family again

My first employer out of school would rent out a hotel ballroom in the city and host a thanksgiving party. All you could eat and drink. My significant other and I went to this for several years

Then we started doing our own thing, getting a honeybaked ham and some sides, keeping it quiet and minimal

Always prefer the catered option or doing something small. The big family gatherings, I save that for Christmas. Thanksgiving is way too close to Christmas to deal with two stressful extended family gatherings in that short span of time

I like my direct family, my pets, football, and a relaxing day for Thanksgiving

You say this all the time

I don't want to deal with making a pie

I want to buy one that has already been made
