I wanted to know if anyone has any info on this...I've heard from multiple sources about this but I saw theres drama with Chilifest raising its prices and alot of people got curious about it. I checked this as well but they say theyre a nonprofit on their website and donate money to charity but according to nonprofit logs they havent been since 2021. I don't know if theres some reason for this but given the history of the group that runs it (SAE) and the lawsuits theyve been in, I feel like its odd that they stopped being a nonprofit the same year they had their lawsuit and said in their public filings they had chilifest and had income during COVID when there was no event?

I just find it odd and while they might be donating some money to charity I feel as though it doesnt add up. If they were truly doing what they said why arent they a nonprofit? Are they keeping some of the money they make?

They lost their tax-exempt 501c3 status because they failed to file a Form 990 for 3 years in a row. As you mentioned, the last filed was in 2021.

Somebody remind me the poopie pants story. I seem to remember a story about somebody passed out and crapping themselves and maybe a pic. Was there more to this?

In my day we went to TAMC to get drunk…. In all seriousness Chilifest was not all that big of a thing. I think is was only for Frats early on in the 90's…which was not a lot of people back then.

It's like regular drinking with your buddies but you have to drive somewhere first and put on matching shirts.

Only went once when I was in school. Seemed like the cops were shooting fish in a barrel when it came to MIPs, PIs, DCs, etc.

Yeah this is what im referring to. I looked over the papers and saw that this is the same year SAE had their paint thinner lawsuit. They also had a few memebers on the board for chilifest in the document named in the lawsuit....2021 they didnt have chilifest but reported spending money on an event....Just weird how no one sees this.

I don't know why anyone would care to "see that" when the motivation in attending ChiliFest is to get drunk and hear country music in a field. If that's all you care about, why would the rest matter?

And expenses in 2021 without a Fest could be a lot of things. They could have been late paying expenses from 2020, they could have booked venues / acts / services that were nonrefundable if/when 2021 was canceled, they could be advanced payments for reserving things for 2022. There's still business expenses even if there's not an event. Field maintenance, accounting fees, attorneys fees, insurance, etc.

Looked up pricing out of curiosity and they are charging $135 for just a one day pass, which is crazy. If that's what it cost back when I was at A&M, we couldn't have afforded to go. Think it was like $20 to get in back then.

I'm not an expert, and am not offering any advice, but I believe organizations can sometimes claim the status if their status is officially pending.

Was that a rumor that Chilifest was sold in like 2000 away from the frat to a corporation? Late 90's it was fun and debauchery and I wasn't in a frat.

This is my field. And you're right; they can claim it if the pending status is because they've submitted their paperwork to the IRS and they're waiting for their initial 501c3 designation at the onset of their establishment.
