Inspired by the Nixon thread, what's the smallest, most Podunk Texas town you've spent time in, not just passed through, that you think nobody else has experience with.

For me, it's Charco, Tx. Family has a ranch there, so I used to hunt and shoot and fish there a lot. When I was young, my cousins told me they had an itinerant priest who would do a bilingual Mass there in under 30 minutes, from start to finish. Sermon and everything. I couldn't believe it, but they were right. You could deer hunt at dawn, check off Mass, maybe go into Kenedy for lunch, be back in time to throw out some corn and hunt until dusk.

Anyone else been there?
What's your Podunk, Tx story?

I went to Rosebud, TX for the total eclipse last year. Nice little town with a coffee shop that served Blue Bell. Went to a Mexican restaurant for lunch and the beans had an orange tint to them. Clouds dispersed just in time for the eclipse.

East Bernard.

The town is a bit of a dump, but Vincek's smokehouse has great daily lunch specials and their meat counter has some lovely selections. The stuffed pork chop is great on the grill.

Praseks isn't too far away in Hilje, but Vinceks is less crowded and easier on the wallet.

Are we talking actual town with a post office or are we talking "community", like Wellborn. Or Longpond, near Angleton?

It makes a difference in how I answer.

Grew up in Acton, TX although that area is now named DeCordova.

Town so small it had a town triangle, not town square. In the triangle sat an Exxon named "The Dam" Bait and Grocery.

Smallest state park in TX is the Elizabeth Crockett grave site in the Acton Cemetery.

My mom ran over a bunch of chickens in the road at Patricia, Texas in her 90's Astro van while the 10 kids inside screamed. So many feathers.

Smallest communities I've been through are Jo Jan Van, Divide, Stiles, Delhi and Biry.

Smallest with a post office would probably be Divide.

My grandfather lived in Charco for a few years when he was a small child.

Had to be early to mid 1930's.

Carlton.

In the early 80's into the 90's, they had a gas station, post office, art gallery, grocery store, and a couple of churches.

The gas station fell down at some point. The art gallery is no longer there. I think the grocery store and post office are still there but I haven't visited in many years.

Supposed to be soon, it will be nice to not have a beach in front of our house anymore.

Does changing a flat tire count as spending time in?

Oatmeal Texas.

Grew up just south of Ovilla - pop. 300 (in the late 70's). Pickard's Gro-Mkt was the place to grab a coke out of the ice box, sit on an orange crate and listen to the old men talk politics.

Point Blank Texas (nothing to do there, except stop for gas and get a Subway.

But it has one of the original 1936 Historical Markers; Home site of George Thomas Wood (born 1795), Colonel in Mexican war, Republic of Texas Senator and Governor of Texas 1847-1849.

LOL - I've spent time - actual time in most of these locations mentioned.

Two not mentioned so far:
Veribest - close to San Angelo - responsible for an ag chem location there.

San Isidro - between McCook (another hole in the wall) and Rio Grande City. Hunted around there quite a bit.

And for S and Gs - drank a few beers in Valentine.

Looking at a map, there are probably only 6-10 counties in Texas I have not been to. Loving, Winkler and Ward in West Texas. Sabine, Shelby, Panola and Harrison in East Texas. Maybe 1 or 2 more in East texas.

Oh, and been to a couple of dances in Quihi - between Castroville and Hondo.

Depends on what "spent time" means. And we'll assume you mean an official municipality.

Lived in? Teague, population 3384.

Visited? Mustang, population officially zero. No one can be less than that.

I used to live in Waring.

I spent a summer in college surveying the San Jacinto River in Onalaska.

I spent a few months clearing a log jam on the Guadalupe and San Antonio rivers in Tivoli.

My grandparents used to have a ranch in Hobson.
