Sprayberry, Texas

They had a great bbq spot! Used to eat there on the way to the deer lease!
Long gone I'm sad to say.
I grew up in Midland. That place has been gone for like 25-30 years. Either that or it just always looked closed and empty.
Yea I think it closed around 2000. After that it was either eat something in Midland or wait until you get to the lease (or a fried pie in sterling City)

Santo, Strawn, Gordon, Mingus, Thurber.
When my native Eastland County was dry, my dad would drive to Mingus and to the small house of an elderly Mexican couple who would sell beer (Falstaff) to thirsty folks). We had to walk back to their chicken coop where the man would extract a six pack from the straw.

Smokestack has damn good food too. Liver & onion, top tier burger and CFS. I need to try Mary's.

I served as Mayor of the City of Hays for 6 years.
I am old enough to remember when it was just a subdivision called Country Estates. My uncle bought one of the first homes in Leisure Woods before there was a neighborhood swimming pool. The City Limit sign in Buda said 492
I think one of my former schoolmates may have also been Mayor of Hays at one time.
I've only been here about 20 years.
The first Mayor of the City of Hays just passed away a couple of years ago. There is now a new Elementary School in Kyle named after him: Ramage Elementary School.
Lamont Ramage was on the HCISD school board when I was a student. I went to school with his son Monty
Mo Johnson, namesake of the newest HCISD high school, was our superintendent. My dad was farming buddies with Ted Lehman whose name is on the Kyle high school. He was also a school board member at one time.

The town is a bit of a dump, but Vincek's smokehouse has great daily lunch specials and their meat counter has some lovely selections. The stuffed pork chop is great on the grill.
Praseks isn't too far away in Hilje, but Vinceks is less crowded and easier on the wallet.
