Why not just go to his lawyer?

He already said it once to Tommy, "I'm innocent, the lawyer ****ed me."

One thing that always confused me about that movie was him handing the package to the employee at the bank to mail. Maybe I'm too young but it doesn't seem that banks would ever be in the business of mailing whatever packages with unknown contents a customer hands them.

Because cell phones did not exist at that time.

And how did Andy have proof of murder at Shawshank? He kept the warden's books. He had him dead to rights on the white collar stuff, but I've never understand how he provided any proof related to violent crime.

You people have just proved why "Forrest Gump" was truly the best picture of that year

He had already paid the postage. He simply asked them to put that in their outgoing mail. He was leaving town, as evidenced by the fact that he was withdrawing all his money.
There's nothing confusing or suspicious about him asking them to do that.
Especially in the 60's or whenever that was supposed to be.

What happened to the Dufresnes? No one seems to care, who could eat at a time like this?

Bush, search part of 3, go find the Dufresnes!

He literally brought receipts for all of the white collar stuff, so I'm sure whatever else he detailed was probably taken as pretty truthful and kicked off more investigations from the state that provided enough evidence for convictions. It's one thing for a prisoner to make a complaint about abuse from guards and the questionable deaths of prisoners. It's something else entirely for a prisoner to turn over ledgers, bank accounts, and receipts for massive bribery and kickback schemes involving guards and the warden and make that same complaint.

I think it was the final test before he went all out to destroy the warden. I wonder if the warden had cared and advocated for Tommy, maybe he would not have turned him in for revenge.

Both were good movies, but I liked Shawshank more.

But, the year that best picture went to that awful and incredibly stupid movie, Shape of Water, is when I quit paying any attention to awards from the "academy".

Not trying to defend the Academy in anything here, but that was a pretty bad year for movies. I feel like they were trying to make up for Pan's Labyrinth.

It seems like the Crash year to me. Same movie, but with fish sex.

It would also seem that banks wouldn't be in the business of free toasters with a new account.

He would have taken it to the post office, but they have security cameras everywhere. He didn't want to get recognized

I think you may be overthinking it bit. It would be common to do this for a customer, especially if the postage is already applied. Also, banks have security systems as well, even in the 60's.

All of these plot points made sense in the novella; the movie plays up the melodrama but introduced some logical holes.

That's what the Hollywood script called for! Yes! It would have been the correct route legally to take to contact his attorney.

Yep, he assumed that the warden to be acute (between 0 and 90 degrees).
