My daily preach:
Start investing. NOW. Every minute you waste is a dollar lost. America is moving to an "invester-first economy so you don't want to be left out.
You don't want to struggle when you are in your 60s and onward when it is hard to get a job or you don't want to get a job or you are not able to get a job.
You can throw stones at me later, but do this NOW.
It is not hard to make a big sum grow a little and it be a lot. It is really hard to make a small sum grow a lot to make a lot. Compounding early is the key to this.
This is true but one always starts somewhere and sometime. That sometime should be NOW. Right now. Somewhere could be even $100 but be disciplined and put money away.
Full disclosure, my dad bought stock in the 70s in my name and it was around 60k in 1996. Some TI, ATT, Tesoro Petro and they became different companies. When I matured up to know wtf investing was, I liquidated it all against what the financial advisor at Salomon Smith Barney (no longer in existence) told me and bought my own stock. Grew that myself to a point I am well-placed for retirement. I am very disciplined and never make impulse buys. All that helps. So I started from a seed of around 75k in 1999. You can start with $1000 if you want.
Not rocket science. Anyone can do it.
