Men who don't do this absolutely amaze me.

But they're the kind of people who can't just turn it off and relax for 5 minutes.

I dunno. Seems kinda weird he just can't be honest with his wife

My thoughts exactly. I couldn't give less of a **** if my partner needed half an hour to themself. I know I certainly do.

Correct me if I'm wrong:

You have no kids

Your wife travels a decent amount for work, leaving you with a fair amount of alone time

Thought this was just a well known play in the dad's playbook. I've always thought you called it in but just went early to pick it up (before it's ready ) so you get time to down a beer or marg

We have no kids, both work from home, and we travel to most places together.

There's nothing wrong with needing alone time. But I feel like he shouldn't have to lie about it. That doesn't seem healthy.

EDIT: we work in the same industry so work trips almost always overlap. We're actually in Houston right now on a work trip

Yeah. He just needs to spend an hour in the ****ter Texaging on his phone like most dads.

Someday something is going to happen with the kids and she is going to freak out about it. He won't be there and she will hold this over his head for the rest of their lives and bring it up every time she has a minor **** up and needs to defer blame on him. Which will be basically every other day.

Ok. So not usual 9-5 at an office and then dealing with homework and taxi service for kids to extra-curriculars and bath time and bed time and chores that you can sneak in after that.

Yeah. Doesn't sound like you have been in position to properly comment.

Okay answer me this since I don't have kids. Is it normal to have to lie about needing some alone time?

Would that not be a reasonable request?

I'm genuinely curious because that seems standard to me

It's not for me but it can be more of an "omission of full information" in some cases.

Needing a beer at 5 on a Friday just to decompress is weird to me. Homeboys job is no more stressful than anyone else's.

Fuzzy's is always so damn slow. I can finish my frozen margarita every damn time before I get the to go order.

Fuzzy's might say that's a feature and not a bug. Because you can buy a margarita before your food is ready every time.

The old marrieds need to fulfill all the stereotypes or they're just not happy with their lives. It's basically like the whole "the only happy aggie is an unhappy aggie" trope.

Yes you do.

Instead of writing this high horse diatribe for whacky internet randos, might I suggest you communicate with your wife about what a good boy you're being?

He's hoping she'll let him hit it a second time.

Best way to find my alone time is to tell my wife I'm going to do something requiring physical labor (not in the bedroom)... "want to help?" is a sure way to get me all the alone time I want.
