Who does overhead bin space belong to?

I'm currently on a flight on a pretty small plane, an Embraer 175

In the domestic first/business class there are 4 rows in a 1-2 formation with rows on the right having two seats and rows on the left having one seat.

The single seaters don't have a normal overhead bin. It's basically deep enough to hold a lunch box, purse, or small tote back. The other side of the row has a normal size bin that can accommodate rollaboards and carryons.

Looking at the image below, who should have access or control of the full size bin space? Should it only be for the passengers sitting below it or is it a first come first serve situation?

-Can the seat circled in black put their bag above the seat circled in green if they board first?

-Should they wait for the others to board?

-Do they need to ask permission?

Definitely nobody in economy. Pisses me off when some schlep dumps his bag in the first class bin and keeps going to the back of the plane.

When sharing like here, it's first come first serve. But one shouldn't jam two bags in there; one only. The other at your feet.

Having worked for an airline a long time, here's the answer:

First class bags in First class, Economy Comfort in Economy Comfort and Economy in Economy.

First come first served. Can go anywhere. Common courtesy provides that you put your bags up as close to your seat as possible.

If you have a smaller bag or backpack, put it under the seat in front of you - NOT in the overhead bin!

Why? Presumably, everyone in first class and their bags are already on the plane. Plus, it keeps the plane closer to on time if a bunch of people bringing their bags to the back of the plane don't have to bring them back to the front to gate check them when all the bins are full.

My favorite are the people that put their bags at the back of the plane but sit around the middle of the plane. That way when everyone is deplaning they have single-handedly created a cluster**** for everyone.

Have you heard about this new option call "Preboard"?

I hate flying the 175, not as much as I hate flying the 145. I try and book flights that are A320 or larger.

Not everyone in first class boards immediately.

When I've flown on those with AA they will require courtesy checks and ramp pick up of the standard sized carry-ons if the flight is full. If they don't announce it ahead of time (if the flight is not full) and the FC overhead bins fill they will rearrange to put the first class bags in economy but as close to FC as possible.

the best answer is to just go to the counter and ask if they will green tag your bag, leave at the end of the jet bridge and collect there when you get off. If you think you will be fighting for OH space.

I'm now retired but when I was working and flying occasionally, I would go ahead and check my carryon, and didn't feel guilty about putting my briefcase in the overhead bin. I would stand it up so that it took up very little space, certainly less than my carryon had I not checked it.

Row 1 gets priority since they have no under-seat area for their items.

Here's the correct correlation. Print it out and take it with you.

Oh, and don't sit in a seat with an X on it. If you need to ask, you don't need to ask.

I've been an American Airlines person since i was 6 months old and actually found my first frequent flyer card from 1985. But for this trip, I was actually on a United plane

Who flies commercially? We're all Texags rich here aren't we? Always fly on your own private plane.

Just was on back to back flights on this type of aircraft. The first class used up all the way thru first 3 rows of main cabin extra. so just first come first serve.

It seems now with pre boarding especially with United half the plane is eligible to pre board.

If all of you people with your carryon would just check it, we could all load and unload in about five minutes and everything would be much more efficient.
