I'll stream it. I never watched the last season of the series because it was panned so badly.

Maybe they should have just let Boyega take the wheel...

Quote:

John Boyega was asked what he would do if he could remake the #StarWars Sequel Trilogy

"It would be mad. First of all, we're not getting rid of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, all these people. We're not doing that. The first thing we're going to do is fulfill their story, fulfill their legacy. We're going to make a good moment of handing on the baton"

"Luke Skywalker wouldn't be disappearing on a rock ... Hell no. Standing there and he's, like, a projector? I would want to give those characters way more way more"

"Our new characters will not be overpowered in these movies. They won't just grab stuff and know what to do with it... No. You've got to struggle like every other character in this franchise"

"I'd look to the Old Republic stories. And see what we can add to the continuation of that. I would definitely want to see Force Unleashed stories in there. I would try to expand the Star Wars universe as much as possible while respecting the lore. If we're expanding the lore, we have to do it in within the respective boundaries that stay true"

He's expounding on what has become my philosophy regarding a select few iconic movie franchises like Star Wars and Indiana Jones and James Bond....which is these franchises belong to the fans at this point. Star Wars doesn't even belong to Lucas at this point. It belongs to the fans.

So yes, you do "fan service" with these franchises. And yes, you can do fan service and still make great movies. But the driving factor in the scriptwriting process should be "is this something that would actually happen in this universe and would the fans agree?".

Studio heads and directors like Rian Johnson can f*** right off with trying to turn franchises like this on its head.

How would a movie made by and for fans even work? Fans can't agree on anything. And any Star Wars movie not made by Lucas was made by fans for fans.

Johnson pulled Force Projection straight from a beloved book called The Jedi Path.

IMO, find talented directors and writers with a vision and stay out of their way. The upper management meddling causes more issues than any director.

We already wrote the real sequels on this board several years ago.

We are just waiting for TC to get off his lazy ass and get it made.

Hire talented directors, but give them guardrails of established lore and universe laws. Deliver on expectations that the franchise was built on. Mainline movies are not a place to subvert expectations.

Simply hire good directors with a vision and get out of their way? Horses**t. Johnson is the perfect example. He's a good director, but he made his idea of what Star Wars should be. And it clearly wasn't what the vast majority of the fans thought it should be. And it sucked.

Quote:

But with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, director Rian Johnson wants to burn Star Wars to the ground. Not because he harbors ill will toward it, but because he loves it. He loves it so much that he wants to cleanse the garden and allow something fresh and new to grow. The Last Jedi is not concerned about what you, the moviegoer and fan, thinks about Star Wars. It wants to challenge you and make you question what Star Wars is and what it can be

And then they crowdsourced the third movie to be "what the fans wanted" and it was the worst Star Wars that's ever been on the screen.

Last Jedi was a good movie. It's just not what the the hardcore fanboys wanted. They wanted Disney to invent a Time Machine, go back to 1987 and have Spielberg put a 35 year old Mark Hamill in a movie where Luke kicks ass across the galaxy. Disney wanted to focus on new characters so they could have a franchise that ran for another 20 years.

Last Jedi wasn't a masterpiece, but everything after Rey and Kylo get to the throne room is the best start wars since 1983.

The real ****up here, and it's been continuous since basically the credits rolled on Return of the Jedi, is making everything have to be about the skywalker family. Make some movies about something else in the galaxy for once. And for the love of all that's holy stop blowing up the Death Star.

IMO, Andor is the perfect kind of SW for the grown fan. When we were kids, we could see ourselves in Luke or Han... pretended we were them. Now, we can see ourselves in people like:

Cassian
Bix
Syril
Maybe even Dedra for those of us who are f'ed up.

This is actually on me. I've been demanding 30% of the profits for 0.1% of the input and its all buried in litigation.

Uhhhh, no, it wasn't. And you guys implying that I want Star Wars movies to be written/made by a collective of Star Wars fans are completely mistating what I've said.

Powerbelly already clarified what is meant by making the movies as fan service.

And there is still room for products like Andor.

Sorry, not trying to imply anything personal about you. Just thinking back to the online kerfuffle when those movies came out.

Personally I would have done something completely different with the sequel trilogy. But it gets tiresome for people to act like Last Jedi was Plan 9 from Outer Space. It was a well made move, with a coherent plot, good acting and awesome special effects. It set up a decent finish to the trilogy that we never got because of the over the top backlash by a very vocal group of online fans.

I find this offensive. There is no "Last Jedi" film or "sequel trilogy" so there is nothing to have backlash over.

Can't get with you on this. They turned Finn into a buffoon, Mary Poppins in space, Luke was completely counter to what ROJ ended with, Admiral Holdo making ******ed decisions that made no sense, the slow pace of a space chase, and Rose Tico. All...just brutal.

I'll admit some of the visuals were spectacular

I dislike the movie, but it looked great, and I think Hamill did an excellent job. My allergies started acting up when hologram Luke and Leia talked face to face.

It still absolutely blows my mind that Leia, Luke, and Han (and Chewy) could have had a scene together but didn't and never will.

Got a random bout of nostalgia today for the months of lead-up to TFA. The massive hype, the promise of possibly seeing the trio together on screen again....

Sigh. I miss that time.

The mix with Han talking about the force in the trailer might be the best thing that the sequels produced.

Plus the hope that they had learned from all the mistakes from the prequels.

Then when the credits rolled at the end of TFA, having the same disappointment as when the Phantom Menace ended. All that hype and excitement and that's what they came up with? And to mirror Phantom Menace, not knowing it was all down hill from there.
