The second Pirate of the Carribbean movie was like that - ironically the one that made the most money. I remember seeing the guy who played Norrington giving an interview asking what they were trying to accomplish when he and Sparrow and Bloom are on the giant water wheel and the director saying "Let me get back to you on that".

The recent Feige interviews said something (or spun something) about how they always want to leave the scripts a little open during filming, because having all these actors who have embodied the characters for years is good creative juice and may result in good ideas.

But yeah… I dunno man.

Yes, totally. Surely they know the broad story strokes/overall direction they're going. And a draft or two or three has almost assuredly been written, they're likely still finishing rewriting the script, which is probably the more accurate way to put it (though who knows). Still, most (but admittedly not all) of the best movies have a 100% signed-off, completed "shooting script" before they enter production, with wiggle room to edit/improvise of course.

For me the biggest problem is no build up of the villain. Thanos has in-movie or end-credit appearances in Avengers (2012) and GOTG (2014) - 4 and 6 years before he's the big bad, and the infinity stones are talked about throughout Cap 1, Avengers 1 & 2, GOTG, Dr. Strange - and I'm sure I'm missing a few.

I keep going back to the Russos saying these next two Avengers movies are the start of something new - a new era, paving the way for the next decade or so - not the ending/culmination of multiple movies that we're used to. So, in that regard, maybe they can pull off not introducing the new big bad until now. That said, it's obviously going to require a ton of heavy lifting.

I wish they wouldn't worry about everything tying together in this phase or building towards a big team up. Between the F4 and X-Men, I think that will scratch the "team up" itch. I don't really need a "big bad", I'd rather them just focus on good standalone type movies.

I realize they won't, I'm just saying…

Maybe they're blindsiding us and Doom wins Doomsday ( which he probably will ala Infinity War) but he also sort of "wins" Secret Wars and the next few movies after that are all trying to undo the veil over the Earth that is a whole lot of his shtick in the SW graphic novel.

I hope it follows through with the plot of Strange working with him.

I think there's a difference between no plan and a strong outline without every detail or line written.

The Star Wars issue was more than there was no overarching plan to connect the films together. In particular TLJ didn't have a clear connecting path or an understanding of what was planned (?) for TROS, which seems like kind of a big misfire on a multibillion dollar franchise.

This. They literally made the first movie and then hired "He Who Shan't be Named" to do part 2 however the hell he wanted with no plan on how it would go or tie into the third movie….

Maybe this is just me being me with characters but I didn't recognize anyone in that trailer….dont know if it's just the animation style or the fact that I've only seen each of the BP movies once each….

I think that is b/c, for the most part, it all looked to be taking place way in the past. Trojan horse, wooden sailboats, etc. I think only at the very end was probably Shuri

These are all new characters from the past.

This looks like it's going to be about different spy missions throughout history when Wakanda was still a secret to the rest of the world.

Think of it as Assassin's Creed, but with Wakandans.
