Got a cheapo Leo Jaymz headless guitar in today. Tuning this thing was a new experience, need to play around with the action as it is higher than eagle tiddies. I think it's gonna be a fun little guitar

Merry NGD Christmas!

My wife surprised me with the Jason Isbell Martin 0-10E that I had been eyeing since its release. Perfect size for playing on the couch.

What gear did everyone else get?

I got a jaguar kit from Stewmac. Looking forward to building it in 26. Have not figured out what color I want to make it.

Got a Blues Driver with the Phat mod (love it), an Airstrip pedal (not sure about this one), and an amp stand.

Got two Sweetwater gift cards. $250 total

Need a looper pedal.

Considering a Sheeran. But I know there are a lot of options out there.

Finally figured out how to lower the saddles on this guitar, plays a lot better now. Fun little couch guitar

Not a new guitar for me but if I had unlimited funds I would by this. I always like this funky body style and headstock.

I'd hoped to get it for Christmas to play during the extended time off, but instead my wife gave me a PlayStation VR2. I'll accept it

Early late January birthday present arrived today - Fractal AM4 Amp Modeler.

My first toe in the modeling world. It's a stripped down version of their more powerful, expensive, and complicated units. Soundwise indistinguishable from the bigger units, it just can't stack as many effects and amps at the same time. they also left off a few high cpu intensive effects. It'll either be everything I need, or establish that I like the tweakability enough to justify one of their more powerful units.

Crazy work day so I'll plug and play the first time tomorrow morning.

That looks very cool.

What do you run it into for sound?

Will it handle a looper and other normal effects pedals? I've done no reading on amp modelers.

Yes to loopers and other pedals. A looper is one of the cpu hogs they cut for this lighter model but you can run a loop pedal in front, in the fx loop, or after the output.

I'll run into a Carvin Mach100 power amp pedal, then into a custom Atlas Tone cab with a 1x12 celestial vintage 30. I won't use the cab sims unless going into headphones or computer.

One good thing about the downturn in the guitar market is sometimes you can pick up something you've been lusting after for a long time for a steal. New Gretsch Professional Nashville in Cadillac Green arrived last night.

I was thinking about getting their new Synchromatic version made in China since it's so much cheaper, but then found a dealer with a Professional at a great discount. Couldn't be happier with it after one night.

I don't have a lot of experience with Gretsch, but that is a beautiful instrument. Hope it plays and sounds as great as it looks!

Now, take that tuner off! Don't want to stain your headstock! Granted, that only really happens with nitro finishes, and I don't know if that line has nitro or poly.

Thanks! So far it's everything I was hoping for.

Yes, I usually don't leave them on there.

Has anyone else attended one of these vintage guitar shows before?

https://www.instagram.com/amigoguitarshows?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

I've attended the NorCal one the past few years (and will go again this weekend). It's fun to look at all the old guitars, but I never really know what I should be looking out for in terms of "good deals" (or if they even exist) at these types of events.

Curious to hear the groups thoughts. Thanks!

I have not, but I would love to some time. But I would probably end up spending too much money on something I don't really need.

At some point I'll hit up the show in Mesquite. It would be very hard not to leave with something.

I've been to several. Seldom find bargains these days. I'm usually in the market for parts moreso than guitars. I don't look for high dollar vintage stuff, but there are usually plenty of plain-old used guitars to be had.

Best purchase I've made was a new Reverend bought from the CEO Ken Haas. He was kind enough to throw in the $250 case for free, and since he doesn't have an actual storefront in Texas there was no sales tax.

The best chance for "deals" is on the last day, if you can find someone that would rather dump something than have to pack it up and take it home.

Any opinions on the MIM Fender Player 2 Tele's? FWIW, I prefer rosewood fingerboards to maple, and I'm not a professional, so I don't need a $3k model.

Logged into Reverb, today, and saw this beauty was just listed. Yeah... I've wanted a thinline Tele for a long time. Then I see this awesome Sage Mist Metallic Green finish with the soft V maple neck, a light ash body and handwound nocaster pickups? That's all the boxes checked for me!

Went ahead and snagged it. Now, I'm listing a couple guitars on Reverb that I don't play much, anymore.

This baby will be shipping on Monday!

Nice. You guys find all kinds of great deals on Reverb. I tell myself I should visit reverb more, but it is probably good that I don't. Just too many things to do! I haven't even been practicing lately.

(E.g. I'm doing a ton of plumbing and carpentry around the house so I haven't even had time to think about my new build)

Great looking Thinline! What year is it based on? I bet that neck is going to play like butter.

The body base is a '51 Nocaster with the Fender CS handwound '51 nocaster pickups, which is what I have in my CS Blackguard, and I absolutely love. I've also learned that my favorite Tele's are light ash bodies. Alder body Teles just always don't seem to compete with the ash ones, from the ones I've played.

haha! One sink fixed, will try to fix the other during halftime of the Bball game. Then I have to clean up my work area that got dominated by Christmas present wrapping, then I want to unbox the kit. Still have no idea what color I'm going to make it. I keep seeing some sweet green guitars on this thread so maybe I'll try that.

I feel bad no one has responded to you and I tend to be the Tele guy on this thread.

My first questions would be:
  • Have you played Teles in the past? If so, what were the models you played and what did you enjoy about them?
  • Is there a reason you're asking about the Player II? Did you just take your budget and look for which Fender Tele fits in that price range or did you look at all the specs and decided they conform to what you like?
I'm not saying you're doing this, but I feel like so many just paint all Tele's as basically the same, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Because of how simple they are, every little difference in hardware, wood, paint, and pickup completely changes the guitar, imo.

All other things aside, my only concern for the Player II series is the A5 magnets in the pickups. Tele's are always at risk of being too harsh, imo. A5 magnet based pickups are ones I would never want on one of my Tele's. Too high output and too many highs, for me. But that's just my personal preference.

But, with anything, just be sure the play them first. You can find some gems from the various MIM lines.

With any guitar, my recommendation is to ALWAYS buy used. You can get models that are a steps above others for similar prices when buying used.
