Was reflecting on the themes in this show, and the nature VS nurture debate is so uniquely approached that I almost missed it entirely.

Outwardly it has become a struggle between what we are led to believe is two different people, in one body, but I failed to really consider how much they are the same (nature) and how that will play into their actions going forward. So far the show has really made a point that we are just the product of our experiences and memories (nurture) and nature plays a limited or almost nonexistent role in who we are

Escape at Dannemora is excellent. Seven-episode limited series from 2018. Awesome cast too, including Patricia Arquette. I highly recommend giving it a shot...

Just finished this and man I enjoyed it. Great recommendation and it's on Netflix at the moment.

Bit of a Mac commercial in spots but this is a really cool look behind the scenes at some of the filming and editing.

Everyone else was thinking The Graduate with the last scene but I went straight to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Definitely a different vibe.

Although obviously less accessible and more intricate than others, still surprised to see Severance sitting at 8.7 on IMDb. That puts it pretty far down the list of top shows.

I can see how it could be polarizing. For people who don't buy in and just think it's weird, it's probably terrible. If they don't like the feel of the show, they aren't going to care about the cinematography or acting. But for folks who do like it, it's a 10/10. It just may lack some of the broad appeal of the consensus all time great shows.

Agree. There is a lot more thought that goes into this show than say Game of Thrones. GoT is easier to follow and you can be a little distracted while watching. Severance you almost have to block off the time and actually watch and pay attention which is hard for a lot of people these days.

Top 40 radio isn't necessarily the best music ever made, or what I'm into either…. Mass popularity isn't a marker of what's "best" in my eyes. This show is awesome.

I think a Helena fakeout (round 2) would be super lame. You can only pull that twist once.
Absolutely. If not this will turn into a Westworld show where it's impossible for the audience to tell who is actually who. That s--- got so confusing!

Definitely this. I was watching with my sister the other day, and she kept texting. I wanted to pause it and smack her in the head to make her pay attention, or otherwise what's the point of even watching...?

God forbid I watch with my mom. She could pay complete attention and id constantly be getting "wait, what's happening?" or "wait, was that him from earlier? Why doesnt he know the baby or his sister? I'm so lost." The pause and rewind buttons would be worn out by the end of an episode.

Went through that constantly with GoT, too. Our friends couldn't keep any of the characters straight.

I get your point but GOT is not the show for this analogy.

You had to lock in for GOT too. I guess unless you read the books...not sure.

But GOT had so much going on and so many characters you had better be paying attention.

I would agree, just using it as a example based on the small details. To me Severance you are scanning for every little detail in their environment, where as GoT you could listen and still follow along, I would agree probably not the best comparison, but I could not think of any other at the time.

A colleague I convinced to start watching S1 last week sent me this picture this morning; I thought yall would enjoy too.

I went and found the original post because I assumed it was an April Fool's post, but it was not. Facebook, sigh I know; but I looked on X and IG both and it wasn't posted there...

Anyway, it's a good ad but the comments are a real goldmine.

I prefer to binge things so I watched all of S2 the last couple of days.

What a mind ****. That was amazing writing and acting. Watching Mark argue with himself on video was just great stuff.

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I would be happy with it ending the way it did. It would be very Inception-like. iMark saving oMark's wife and then walking away with Helly. Just leave it hanging there.

And hiding on that floor of lumon forever...? Seems to be a pretty big hole to leave without even the tiniest semblance of a resolution. And definitely the opposite to any sort of gratifying conclusion IMO.

Seems apparent to me that Burt is a bad guy and that he invited Irving over so that the security guy would have time to search his apartment.

Britt Lower does an awesome job playing two completely different characters.

I don't fully trust the un-severed doctor lady.

Fields said burt worked for lumon for 20 years while the severance division started 12 years ago. I think Burt might be unsevered
This was my thought as well; Burt was there pre-severance and is most likely unsevered.

Interpreted that differently. Fields is accurate with 20 years. Burt went out of his way to try and cover that. First by telling Fields to tone down the drinking and then going out of his way when Irving was leaving to bring it up again that Fields misspoke. And then the evil glare at the end as Irving was leaving.

It was 20 years.

Oh, and this show is f'ing incredible. Milchick is incredible. His scene to correct his own usage of big words was the best scene in this episode. That guy is nails and deserves the Emmy.

Maybe I phrased my post poorly, but I agree with you. I think Burt worked for Lumon for 20 years and was never actually severed. He didn't want Irv to know that he was at Lumon pre-severance

Its this or the work he was doing at Lumon was so bad the heaven story is actually true and Burt wanted to have a version of himself that was actually good.

Completed aside here. I am not a person with any real connections but we have known John Noble socially for some time and it was so fun to love this show and see him in those scenes with those two actors. Remember being told he was "filming scenes as Christopher Walkens husband" before I had watched season one.

That's pretty cool.

But yeah, I'm with you. I think Burt was, indeed, severed and that the heaven thing was true. If so, I also think his outtie was up to no good, and prior to being severed, was involved in some truly evil **** at Lumon.

okay I can't believe I'm the only person to say thos, but I've binged all of season one and I'm almost done with season 2 and the writing is incredible and deep until the dinner scene when I was screaming at the TV

DEAR LORD IN HEAVEN, COULD ONE HOLLYWOOD WRITER PLEASE ASK A CHRISTIAN ABOUT CHRISTIANITY. YOU KNOW THE WORD LUTHERAN BUT YOU DONT KNOW THAT CHRIST DIED SO THAT YOU CAN GET FORGIVENESS FOR YOUR SINS AND GO TO HEAVEN WITHOUT CASTRATING HALF OF YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS FOR A "SECOND CHANCE" ITS LITERALLY THE BASIS OF THE WHOLE THING.

/rant over.

Or... maybe it's way more interesting dramatically if the characters believe it's a good/bad/merit thing and not just about accepting Christ. Especially when the good/bad angle speaks far more to the themes of the show, with the innies fighting for personhood, believing they too have a soul, etc.

I actually agree with the idea that this is what they were wrestling with, but it would have made more sense if they didn't try to pass them off as Lutheran. Then again, with the Lutheran church these days, maybe they're on to something.
swimmerbabe11
How long do you want to ignore this user?
then don't cite Christianity when a merit system is the literal opposite of the faith. they could have totally played the idea of wanting a fresh innocent start without being super wrong on a basic tenet of the faith they are talking about. that's all I'm saying.

it totally took me out of the moment because I was like "oh in all these conversations with their pastor, forgiveness wasn't in one? cool cool cool"

When I think Lutheran, I think old people, but yeah you're probably right. Traditional Catholic probably would have made a little more sense.

I thought they just sat around and someone said, "What if we made a show about actually being able to keep your work life at work?"

Guess I'm not deep.
