He says big guns, but to the casual viewer, is Lanterns, Flash, or Teen Titans bigger than SuperGirl?

You need a really solid story. And you need to be aware that if you have a female or minority lead, writer, or director, a very vocal minority who wants everything to be white, male, and hetero is going to immediately hate it and do everything it can to trash your movie, and their relentless negativity will have an impact on how the movie is received.

That "vocal minority of white hetero males" is not responsible for the critics' reviews that are giving this movie an overall rotten rating.

Outside of a few comments to the media that Alcock has made, i'm not seeing anyone complaining about this movie being woke and blaming its potential failure on a feminist agenda. The complaints about the trailer and now the actual movie are more centered on the look of it (lighting and cinematography), the villain, and the tired messy antihero formula that's become a trope in james gunn movies.

As for the script and what "insiders" were saying about it beforehand, maybe that's correct and it was much better before the director and post production got their hands on it. Which would be a shame, because it feels like the screenwriter is gonna take the blunt of this fall out.

But Gunn lies all the time in his statements to the media and what he posts on twitter. We saw it just recently with some casting news - Gunn not only denied the news but he classlessly attacked the outlet that broke it. Then we find out a few days later that the leaked news was correct and Gunn was lying.

DC needs to find its Iron Man - a director and an actor who want to make the coolest movie possible. A movie that has great music, great humor, and simple stakes. Maybe take a massive swing on someone that everyone knows is talented but is a dangerous hire and a smart director who is going to make a really tight movie that knows WTF he is doing.

Until that happens, it's going to be everyone sitting around with their thumbs up their asses until Batman II comes out, which according to the latest release date, is going to take them 5-1/2 years to actually do.

This is their master list per IGN on April 3, 2026.
I'm truly excited about 2 of these things: Lanterns and Batman 2. I'm sure I'll see Man of Tomorrow and the Wonder Woman movie is WW is hot enough. The only other show I, who consider myself a pretty heavy duty nerd, am excited about is a Booster Gold series. So that's 2 things I am truly excited they're doing out of a list of 20. Even if I include the other 3, you're still at a 25% interest rate. That's bad news for DC.

  • Supergirl (June 26, 2026)
  • Clayface (September 11, 2026)
  • Man of Tomorrow (July 9, 2027)
  • The Batman Part II (October 1, 2027)

I agree. Blue Beetle has become a quiet favorite of mine, and a Booster Gold comedic tv series would be fun (but WITHOUT James Gunn's style being imprinted all over it. We don't need another Peacemaker, we need different styles in this DCU).

But otherwise the vast majority of that lineup will generate zero to little interest in the general audience. But I'm pretty sure there are things in there, like The Authority, which Gunn has already confirmed are not happening. And I'd be willing to bet the rest don't come to fruition either because Gunn will get canned before they can.

My DC fandom centers around the big ones of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, so the bolded titles are ones that I will definitely see in theaters (aside from Supergirl, which I am seeing tomorrow).

The italicized titles are of interest, but I'll be in a wait-and-see mode on them. Hoping the DC Crime TV series is a continuation of the Penguin series, or related to it somehow. I'm not sure how interesting movies focused on villains will be.

To be honest, even the trailer looks stupid to me -- portraying her as a drunk teenager is a no-go for me.

The only DC character that keeps my(and everyone in our family) interest is Batman(and the Penguin series).

All other characters are boring and flat.

I buy that summary. We've been treated with a lot of crap superhero movies, and there's no way this is the worst of them. But like I've been saying over and over, Gunn is a one-trick pony unfortunately and that pony is old and worn out and the audience is tired of it.

It sucks. But there's a good reason for this - there is not a Dairy Queen in Waller. Closest location is Hempstead, just a few miles up 290.

So the Absolute Batman Annual does not contain the following scene?

Quote:

The 2025 Annual, drawn by Daniel Warren Johnson, contains the scenes that generated the most controversy. The story depicts Absolute Batman encountering an encampment of immigrants. A gang wearing pig masks the comic's visual shorthand for white supremacists attacks the camp with the police joining in. One officer performs a Nazi salute and shouts "White power" before Batman breaks his arm. Batman then strangulates an ICE officer. He burns down the gang's hideout with a flamethrower. The issue ends with Batman weeping at what he has become.

Batman let's all the guys in Arkham live over and over again no matter what they did to his city or his loved ones but an ICE officer is what finally leads to him killing?

Oh man, that is so hilariously bad regardless of your political background.

No actually, also a generally inaccurate summary (even if you interpret the unidentified officers to be ICE).

In that story two officers get out of a police car, pull on masks, and join in with a gang attacking an encampment of immigrants. One guy who is not an officer (just a dude in a t-shirt if I recall) does a salute and Batman snaps his arm, then beats the crap out of a few others and piledrives one of the officers.

So he definitely doesn't strangle him and nothing about them is specified to be ICE. Happy to share the page as I own the book.

The series is actually a really interesting take on an alternate origin for the character, it's a fun read.

I'd heard about that a week ago and almost came here to **** on this universe, but figured that'd be pretty petty, especially since I haven't watched a second of it yet. But again, Creature Commandos, Peacemaker S2, Superman then Supergirl, then this? That'd be like starting a new MCU with Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
