To be faithful to the game, they should just take an existing movie and cgi Mario over the main character.

On that topic, SMB 2 is the one I grew up playing on NES as a kid, and the 2D Mario I have the most nostalgia for. Plus, it gave us shy guys and my personal favorite SMB theme.
They should make it as trippy as Super Mario Bros Wonder.

I enjoy trolling people by telling them SMB2 was a better game than SMB3, but I do actually prefer it for nostalgia reasons. I also think it has an underrated impact on modern Mario games. Mario and Luigi having different proportions instead of being palette swaps and characters having different jump types and abilities are concepts that first appeared in SMB2 thanks to it being a reskinned Doki Doki Panic.

I can't imagine the insane amount of cocaine the developers went through to make SM2. They'd need a lot more of that white lightning if they want to keep the movie close to source.

My favorite of the original Mario games. Getting some nostalgia now just thinking about it.

The original SMB2 looked like the first game, but was so much more difficult Nintendo didn't release it in the US. Nintendo ended up taking a completely separate game that was completed and had the characters rebranded to Mario, Luigi, etc and then that game became SMB2. Anyone played the original SMB2?
Couldn't Mini-Bowser just run headlong into a wall or something, hurt himself, and return himself to regular size?
In Mario World logic that would actually kill him.

I've played it as "The Lost Levels" as part of the Super Mario All Stars pack. Very difficult, never beat it. There was one jump you had to time off a spring board I never could get right!
Didn't realize this and Michael were both releasing so close together, in April 2026.
