I've started book 2 in the Licanius Trilogy. I'm going to finish that out. One thing I already appreciate about it is that the author put a 3 page refresher on book 1 at the beginning. Have almost never seen an author do that, but it's hugely helpful for bigger fantasy books like this. Although this one really doesn't have the scale that others I've read have. More authors should do this.

I've seen a few authors do that. Absolutely love it when they do

About halfway through Recursion by Blake Crouch. Haven't read Dark Matter but watched the show and it has a similar vibe. Really enjoying it so far.

Loved both of these books. If you haven't read the Wayward Pines trilogy, I'd highly recommend it.

Bought the first one intending to read it next but left it in an uber like an idiot. Definitely on my list.

Watched the Wayward Pines show. Started strong. Great premise but got pretty bad as it went on. As much as I enjoyed Dark Matter I figured Fox was more to blame than the source material.

Recursion by Blake Crouch was a blast. Can't wait to read some more of his writing.

A Time of Dread(Of Blood and Bone Book 1) by John Gwynne. Loved Gwynne's The Faithful and the Fallen so I started his sequel trilogy.

Just finished Morning Star. Have to agree with others here that it was my favorite of the trilogy.

Either going to start Jurassic Park or Turn the Ship Around next.....obviously two completely different directions

I'd say start with either Recursion or Dark Matter first, then move to Wayward Pines if you liked those two (spoiler alert: you'll like them).

Those are the only books of his that I've read but I've championed them all on this thread.

If you haven't read JP, I'd vote for that one. Easy read and so, so good!

Started a little slow for me but got into groove with it about halfway in. May have just been my mood.

I watched the first 3 episodes of the show DM, but kinda twittered out.

Finished The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. One of the more wheels off books I've ever read. It felt like an attempt to mix of Slaughterhouse Five and Catch 22 (both books I love) - but kind of missed the mark for me. It wasn't bad, but it just….missed. Not sure how they made all of that into a coherent movie.

Books read in 2025:

January
Slaughterhouse Five - Kurt Vonnegut (re-read)
A Wrinkle in Time - Madeleine L'Engle (re-read)
The Silent Patient - Alex Michaelides
Project Hail Mary - Andy Wier
Pines - Blake Crouch
Wayward - Blake Crouch

February
The Last Town - Blake Crouch

March
Dark Places - Gillian Flynn
Sharp Objects - Gillian Flynn

April
Red Rising - Pierce Brown
Golden Son - Pierce Brown

May
Morning Star - Pierce Brown
Echos of Reckoning - Ron Shaw

June
Dune - Frank Herbert
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - Mark Haddon
Still Alice - Lisa Genova
Dark Matter - Blake Crouch
Jurassic Park - Michael Crichton

July
The Lost World - Michael Crichton
Sphere - Michael Crichton
The Andromeda Strain - Michael Crichton
Pet Sematary - Stephen King
The Martian - Andy Wier

August
Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn
Ready Player One - Ernest Cline
Fight Club - Chuck Palahniuk
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams

Just finished Fight Club. I agree with others who say it would've been tough to follow without having seen the movie but still a good read. Darker than the movie in my opinion.

Next up a quick re-read of The Old Man and the Sea. Read it in ninth grade and remember enjoying it.

Ahhh, nothing like the post Fight Club palette cleanser of, *checks notes* The Old man and the sea.

I just finished Emp;ire of Silence, book 1 of the Sun Eater series, and picked up HowlingDark, book 2, but I'm going to reread Frankenstein first.

It's like 80 pages but still counts the same as Crime and Punishment in the total book count.

I'm working through 100 best books of all time.

I like a bunch of modernist literature. And stream of consciousness works if done well. Sound and Fury is one of my favorite books. Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway should be something I enjoy or at least appreciate.

Nope. Mrs. Dalloway is awful. Just nonstop meanderings from an unlikeable character. Banal things are randomly repeated as if they are profound. I understood the premise, just hated it. This was a 200-page turd that you couldn't flush.

I give it zero stars.

A Time of Blood(Of Blood and Bone Book 2) by John Gwynne. This trilogy is good so far, though not nearly as good as the original quartet. It's on a much smaller scale than The Faithful and the Fallen, which has its positives and negatives.

Finished The Old Man and the Sea. Enjoyed it.

Started Run by Blake Crouch. Off the rails from the very beginning and fun so far.

Finished book 6 a few days ago. Great series so far and I'm read for the finale to come out in Nov.
“There is no red.
There is no blue.
There is the state.
And there is you.”

“As government expands, Liberty contracts” - R. Reagan

This sounds awful. I feel like these lists are usually written by people who don't actually enjoy reading. Just lists of books to make you sound smart.

The Greatest Books of All Time

Great website. You can filter by genre, country, or anything you can think of. You can also download a spreadsheet from them. I created one for 750 best books of all time. Then another for 750 best American books.

The guy who created the website compiled hundreds of "best of" lists. Then weighted them. While there are some artsy-fartsy books on there, it's a balanced list.

Mrs. Dalloway just stunk. Not my kind of book.

Just finished Run by Blake Crouch. Turns out it was the first novel he self-published. Thought it was a lot of fun. Worth reading if you are a fan of his other work.

Gotta go back to the bookstore to pick out a new one.
