Not sure if I did the title right buuuut this is one of my favorite Stephen King novellas and I didn't realize it had actually gone to filming.
News?
Notes?
Thoughts?

Mark Hamill as The Major and PSH's kids is cast as well...

It's a good book, but man that's gonna be weird as a movie.

That's gonna be tough to put to film in an interesting way if they stay faithful to the source material.

Would have to be a good directing team and script to make this not boring. I don't think it translates well to the big screen without some editing or detouring from the book slightly.

Not so much as they are just walking the whole time but the whole backstory is not presented in any way other then speculation or in conversation.

Just read it a few months ago, didn't realize going to be movie. Yeah, it will be tough one to keep interesting and I bet they change the ending. When I'm at the gym I'll get on treadmill for an hour at 4 mi/hr. Can only imagine doing that hour after hour for days.

Supposedly King's editors advised that he change 4 kph to 4 mph in the original draft, and no one bothered to convert the distance to 2.5 mph. I'm glad they dropped it to 3 mph for the movie which is a brisk pace for an endurance competition but somewhat more realistic.

That makes sense. 4 mi/hr I'm able to do walking, but any faster and turns into a slow jog.

I just got back from seeing this tonight. Definitely an interesting film. My wife had read the book, and she said it was better (of course). They had to make some edits on the material, for sure.

I will add that, after the events of the last few days, some of the scenes were tough to watch. Definitely not for kids.

I watched this two days ago. It was very good. Tough to watch though. I recommend watching this at the theatres instead of at home.

This was a very good movie that makes you more invested into the characters than you would think possible in such a short amount of time.

From the studio perspective, had to be absolutely dirt cheap to make and will make a gigantic profit.

I thought it was very good. One of the better SK adaptations. Very brutal though especially after last week

I told my wife that as bad as the thought this ending was she needed to read the Gunslinger series to really feel a letdown

Ugh. I know it's R but I took my teen to go see it. We had to leave after 15 minutes. The amount of cursing was off the charts. It's like they got a memo: "you must say the F word every other sentence." I'm not a prude and I can cuss with the best of them (at the right time), but after the 30th ****, it just loses all meaning and is annoying. But, more importantly, I was not going to sit there and expose my teen to it. I know they probably hear worse at school, but I cannot control that.

I'm sure it is a great movie. I enjoyed the book. Maybe I will watch it with my wife when it streams.
I will no longer discuss politics with you. I reject your premises and world view. I am finished trying to compromise with you.

Yeah the F word was ridiculously gratuitous

Decent movie, thought Hamil was bad though. Real bad. Main characters were interesting and ending was not a surprise.

I hadn't read the book and honestly thought he was super robotic, like the twist was he would be a robot when they try to kill him. It was overdone even by his standards

That stuff turns me off movies that do that. Sounds immature. When movies do this, it sounds like a 15-year old was hired to spice up the script.

It's currently the least successful king adaptation and is losing a ton of money. Might have something to do with king spouting off last week, might not. But it is not doing well at the box office

Haven't seen the movie, but in the book the competitors are 13-18 years old so sounds like the script was accurate.

He's always been a sub par and robotic actor in my opinion. Par for the course.

It hasn't even been in theaters for a full week yet and has made $14M worldwide on a $20M budget. Not to mention it currently has an 89% RT score, along with great word-of-mouth, and based on those good graces will continue making money theatrically all month, into October, and of course then on digital, cable, etc. In no world is it "losing a ton of money" and will absolutely, in fact, be profitable when all is said and done. Where are you even getting this?

Whoops, maybe I got it confused with a different article. My bad. Or maybe I completely made it up.

Regardless I actually do want to see it

I am certain the long walk is going to be a cult classic. A beautiful but depressing movie. Engaging characters, excellent depiction of male friendship and brotherhood.

Kings short stories tend to make much (much) better movie adaptations than his novels. The whole never good at endings part.

This was a great story, but in some ways was kind of more of a concept than a narrative.
