Did they ever explain why Freddie actually gave Robbie $2m? I thought the whole plan was to just take the drugs? I can't fathom any logic why Freddie would give money to Robbie.

Robbie and Shelley (Ray's wife) presumably went with her plan to sell the drugs to her contact, so they could split the money and she could get away from he abusive, Skeletor looking husband.

But they showed Robbie meeting with Freddie. So the theory is that he backed out of that and did something different off screen?

Yeah. He wanted the dark hearts to find out. I assume he hoped that they would never find the empty bag. The actual exchange happened off screen.

my assumption was that was a diversion to get Jayson out there so Robbie could kill him. I doubt Robbie expected to survive the meeting.

The drugs were already sold by then, which is why Robbie had the bag full of magazines.

pretty sure the crack head lady (Rays wife) had a buyer who was not Freddy.

...that's convenient. Shelly just happened to know a dealer (whom we never met) that was willing to give her $2m cash.

Ah okay. So meeting with Freddie was part of the empty bag plan and he needed that meeting for the dark hearts to believe the bag had the money? Seems like he could have done the bag plan with the drugs (or an empty bag that Jayson thought was drugs) and not had the meeting. But maybe the drugs wouldn't float so Jayson would know something is up?

I think it was the weakest part of the show (an obvious plot contrivance) that was only surpassed by Eryn's body being found with her killer's initials on a chain in which the info made it back to Jayson timely enough for him to do something about it.

She's Sting's daughter so she could have just fronted the money for the deal.

As I understand it, it was the original dealer Ray was initially going to set Robbie and Cliff up with (before double crossing them, breaking into Cliff's house, and getting arrested). Shelley knew the same dealer, which seems plausible enough to me.

Right, but that dealer who did not know Robbie or Maeve at all just gave Shelley $1 million to give to Maeve out of the kindness of his heart? Or Shelley, who did not have a relationship with Robbie/Maeve, just gave her cut that she got from the dealer to Maeve? I agree it's a very convenient plot hole.

what do you mean? she sold the drugs to the dealer for Robbie

Robbie and Shelley SOLD the drugs to Shelley's dealer. Shelley then got a cut and the rest went to Maeve. Yes, Robbie had to trust Shelley to physically deliver the rest to Maeve, and not take it all for herself, but the filmmakers went out of their way to set that up by giving Shelley the proper motivation, the want to prove that she's "a good person," etc.

and it was believable. also, Robbie didnt have a choice.

She also didnt know if Robbie would survive and come after her.

I found the whole thing more than believable. Not sure the issue some have with this.

The whole idea of an off screen dealer giving $2m cash to Robbie & Shelly is the issue. Robbie and Shelly aren't players in the drug game. They have no muscle, no street protection and are actively being hunted by the Dark Hearts (at least the 2nd largest gang in the area) and the FBI. Giving these 2 people cash for obviously stolen drugs is absurd (and awfully convenient).

Not sure I understand your hang up with it. Are you saying the dealer would have more scruples and refuse to purchase stolen drugs?

The dealer would have shot Robbie and Shelly and just taken the drugs for all the same reasons Freddie and his nephew (?) gave when they were going to take them.

Yea, I know they sold it. I was just saying that the $1 million either came out of the drug dealer's share of profit (which makes no sense) or came out of Shelley's cut. I guess I can kinda see the Shelley angle, but I find it hard to believe that she would just give half or more of her cut to Maeve when she had no relationship with Maeve at all.

But I guess I don't know how much her cut was. So maybe it was much more than $2 million.

It was $2m - - Robbie and Shelly agreed to split the cash (so Maeve got $1m, that means Shelly also got $1m).

Shelly honoring the deal is more believable than a random off screen drug dealer paying fair market value to 2 randos who are being hunted by the Feds and a rival gang.

They doing a season 2? I could see Tom Brandis and his one surviving task member going back at it. Although if you're an agent assigned to him you have a 67% chance of not making it.

Plenty of drug dealers treat it like a business and make a deal to for 12 keys of pure fentanyl. Huge profit margin and worth the risk even if they don't know Shelley and whoever.

Season 2 could be about Freddie or it could have Mare in it…
TCTTS

All indications point to season two happening, with Brandis back as the lead (and then whoever else they want to bring back as well). There are even rumors of a merged, Task / Mare of Easttown crossover season, bringing together Ruffalo and Winslet, though I imagine that would be a lot harder to pull off.

I thought in an earlier episode Shelley mentioned that the dealer was her cousin or something? I don't recall the specifics.

My hang up is that this off screen dealer would transact in good faith to Robbie and Shelly (again who have no gang affiliation or protection and are currently hunted by a rival gang and the feds). And the convenience of Shelly knowing about a 3rd 'mystery' dealer capable of buying that much drugs in bulk in cash.

what if she had more of it coming? and he is getting great margin...why kill the source?

or what if she actually has a good relationship with the person?

seems like you are making way more assumptions to not believe this than it takes to believe it.

if we had "met" this third drug dealer, everything would be fine I guess. Never mind them not being featured was part of the whole twist.

and apparently every drug dealer just kills their sources....no questions asked. Amazing how any commerce gets done in that industry.
