Prez is female
3 generals (or w/e) male, 1 female. A male gets the hero moment.
Two secret service agents, 1 male 1 female. The male gets the villain moment.
A female admiral who begrudgingly helps.
A male captain who very willingly helps (and becomes a fan favorite)

Y'all are not looking at this clearly if you think there's a gender agenda at play here.

Edit: Besides, I bet the only reason Angela Bassett was president is because we've seen her before. Most other characters of that ilk are killed off or never return (Alec Baldwin, for example) so it made sense to have someone who was kind of in Ethan's corner but also had to stay neutral. A Jeremy Renner would have been too friendly (and too just-an-agent), a Kitridge would have been too villainous.

Something I saw in a Dead Reckoning recap video that I hadn't noticed before, Angela Bassett was the CIA Director in Fallout then wasn't in the briefing that Ethan infiltrates (then gases) in Dead Reckoning.

In that scene they mention Kittridge is the CIA Director, and if you look closely Angela Bassett's photo is on the wall behind them (i.e. she's already the President).

Correct

They were interested in bringing her back for 7, but she was not available so they just put that photo up so we wouldn't forget about her

Cool Easter egg to see the photo

For a movie I didn't even like that much, I've gotta watch all the special features for sure.

My God...Tom Cruise is my favorite actor. No one puts more into a role or experience!

But; one day; Hmm. One of these stunts are not going to end well.

But the male captain was black and obviously a DEI hire. Lib agenda confirmed. /F16

So as this will be the first year for the stunt performance Oscar we're just gonna go ahead and give it to them now, yeah?

Absolutely wild.

Unfortunately, the "Achievement in Stunt Design" Oscar won't be awarded until 2028, for the movies released in 2027. Also, as of now, the plan is to award the stunt coordinator, not the stunt performer, since there are multiple performers throughout any given action movie. That said, Cruise might actually be a coordinator at this point - I'm not quite sure how that works - but either way it's another reason why I think he'll back for another M:I movie in a few years.

Holy crap - that footage in the movie was actually Tom hanging from a burning parachute, not special effects?

Ah, I thought they announced it last year to be awarded this year. Seems like kind of a long lead time.

I thought this was pretty solid. The first 30-40 minutes was really choppy and seemed poorly edited, but once Angela Bassett's character showed up, I thought that the movie rounded into shape. Tramell was awesome as the sub captain, probably the best of the cameos. Waddington's American accent was really disorienting for me, did not like that at all.

Glad that Luther got a good send off and the final word.

I knew the sub and biplane set pieces were crazy, but they more than lived up to the hype. I held my breath the whole time he was in the sub, and I was in shock during the plane fight wondering how in the hell they pulled off any of that.

Nice send off, though I doubt it's the final one. Hopefully they take a few years break and come back when they have really tighten up a story.

That was probably the best in theater experience I've ever had. Holy crap what a fantastic movie. I'm sad it hasn't been killing at the box office. I think it came out the wrong weekend.

We just saw it this past Saturday in XD, it was an incredibly fun movie, start to finish.

I truly enjoyed it
Was bummed to see Luther go so early but loved him talking at the end
A lot of action
Just a fun experience all around
Can't wait to see it again

Is Luther's soliloquy at the end of the movie an ode to Ethan Hunt the operative or an ode to Tom Cruise the movie star?

Maybe, both?

And, both Osprey pilots were female.

Sub scene was purely fascinating when it started to roll down the undersea hill. Beautifully filmed.

How did Luther get sick. That was a big mystery. Seems like they could have somewhat explained that. Overall, enjoyable movie that kept my attention for nearly 3 hours. Not nearly as good as 3 which I thought was great but it was a good escape.

I saw it for a 3rd time this week

Honestly- it was less intense and emotional than the first time , but I enjoyed it even more

I need someone to write down the description they give of The Vault and post it here. It had like 8 hyphens. "It's a state-of-the-art, self-contained, titanium-covered," etc etc.

Saw it last night with low expectations and really enjoyed it. Definitely thought it was better that part 1, which I thought dragged on at the end.

A few thoughts
- The opening video from the president starts off "It's been a month since the events on the train". WTF have he been doing for a month? Just growing his hair out?

- Gabriel was a bit of a caricature. His face and scream when Ethan broke his arm almost made me laugh. And the way he always clinched his teeth when he talked. He wasn't a bad villain but a little over the top and still never really explained who he was or who the woman he killed was.

- Loved the call back to the vault guy and that story line.

- Jim Phelps thing was a but convoluted

- The action and pacing was great and kept my attention the entire time.

- It didn't feel very "final" for a final movie. Ethan's still alive and there the Entity is still alive. I thought there would be a more definitive ending. If they do continue the series I wonder if it would be a full on reboot of another universe or if it would be his universe and they would have to explain what Ethan is up to.

Overall just really enjoyable.

The woman was Ethan's first wife.

Completely agree on Gabriel. I don't remember him being written this silly in Dead Reckoning. The only eye-roll I had the entire movie was when he sped away yelling "Catch me if you can!" lol

Ethan was married to someone else before Julia?

I think she was more likely his girlfriend. I could be wrong, but I don't think they ever specifically say she was his wife/spouse.

We just finished it.
1st 30mins I was ready to walk out. It was so bad and ham fisted in stroking Cruise off. Absolute garbage.

However, it did slowly start to turn itself around and some of the stunts were over the top, it was fun to watch.

I really wish Ethan had made the ultimate sacrifice at the end and plowed into the earth at terminal velocity since they kept beating the line he refuses to sacrifice any of his team members, I thought him being the team sacrifice would be a fitting end.

Probably be a movie I only ever watch once. It was entertaining overall. Solid B.

I felt it was very intense on the first viewing, but after watching it again, I enjoyed it but differently… It actually got better - I especially like how the team had to come together for them to win - lots of opportunities to fail - lots of things went wrong and they still pulled it off

Great flick !

There were some events where it was impossible to suspend disbelief to enjoy the movie. The escape from the sub and rise to the surface was 100% nonsense.

And an inflatable hyperbaric chamber?! WTF.

Also, what happened to the huskies? Going from the Barrents Sea to Africa in a few hours? That Skytrain has a cruise speed of 240mph and a 21xx mile range.

Yeah swimming to the surface without a tank was the most ridiculous part for me, even for this franchise.

remember - he can hold his breath for 5 minutes - shown in MI 5

also - he didn't make it to the top and 'died' for a bit

How deep was he? They made it seem like he was going to extreme depths and the pressure was going to be ridiculous. Then it was a shallow swim back up.

I think it would have been more fitting if Ethan didnt have a chute (Gabriel said there was only one afterall). He still accomplishes his mission but falls to his death. Only thing I don't know how to believablely accomplish is have Luther's message play for him before he dies. It would be too loud during the fall, and the ground impact would have knocked him out if not killed him instantly.

I actually enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would

the flashbacks did not bother me as much as I thought they would

is there a clause in Tom Cruise contracts he has to be shown running in every movie or he just asks to do it-

is there any movie he has not run in?
