It's a giant empty grass lot prime for football games among the neighborhood kids. They weren't trespassing so why should they all bend to the will of a Karen?

If you hate kids, maybe don't move to a neighborhood filled with kids.

I back up to a park that had a gazebo and large playground before the houses were built. We had a secondary smaller park about 1/4 mile and it had swings, and so I always wanted sings at the larger back by my house since I had little boys.

Well I joined the HOA and suggested it, and within a year, were getting bids.
One house that backed up to the park (not an original owner) complained, saying why put swings up, it will bring noise from kids, etc.

I'm like, dude, you bought a house that backs up to a playground and gazebo, and adding swings is all of a sudden going to cause an issue with loud kids???

He was irate, and eventually we offered to plant a tree behind his fence wherever he wanted to help block.

Some people are insufferable.

The victim seemed like she played it pretty cool for a long time. Everyone has a breaking point.

I don't have kids but I can see that if my kid came home and said that this lady (who had a history of causing trouble) took their iPad and threw some stuff at them then it might cause me to finally go over there and have a more intense conversation about some boundaries.

Susan clearly had a screw loose but she didn't fit the profile of someone you'd expect to start shooting. Everyone should always have their guard up but I don't think the victim was being reckless.

As JTH12 pointed out though, it was late (I believe 10pm)
So your kids aren't playing football in the empty lot at that point, they are simply up to no good. They should have been inside.
This is pretty a universal parenting rule: kids come in at dark.
