Just saw on my Instagram that he passed.

Weird last few weeks for him and now this.

Damn. I loved Todd and his storytelling more than his music. Saw him live once long ago and he always seemed to play at a joint in Tomball around the holidays and always meant of go back.

This one sucks bad. Todd is one of my all time favorite artists. My wife and I danced to one of his songs as our first dance. Seen him play probably a dozen times all over the place. His shows always ranged from "great" to "really shaky start, but pulled it together by the 3rd song". He definitely had his demons and I always assumed he'd go out like this. For whatever reason he never felt like someone who was going to make it to old age status. Rip Todd.

Definitely an odd series of events. Was admitted to the hospital yesterday for walking pneumonia.

The incident in Salt Lake City that kicked all of this off just seems so odd... there's definitely more to the story than what's been reported.

What were all the 'odd events'?

Went to SLC to do a show to kick off a tour supporting his new album...was attacked outside his hotel and had to cancel that show.

Supposedly he was belligerent with the hospital staff and was arrested by SLC PD.

Then back to Nashville and now this.

I had tickets to his Phoenix show, which was supposed to be the next one after the SLC show.

Can't believe he's gone. He was always a blast in concert, in my experience.

Rest in Peace, Todd.

I'm thinking his undiagnosed walking pneumonia lead to his actions in Utah.

Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues in the 1990s was my first exposure to him. My god that song was funny.

Hey hey my my
Rock and roll will never die
Hang your hair down in your eyes
You'll make a million dollars.

Now, to fit in on the Seattle scene
You've gotta do somethin' they ain't never seen
So thinkin' up a gimmick one day
We decided to be the only band that wouldn't play a note
Under any circumstances
Silence
Music's original alternative

I was fortunate to see him open for REK at Harry's, by himself at the Dixie Theater in Bryan, and, I'm pretty sure, one more time at Shadow Canyon. So many great songs. He was an Alright Guy.

This news hit me pretty hard today. I never expected him to make it to a ripe old age, but it's still hard to take. I was lucky enough to see him several times, both with a band and solo. I enjoyed all iterations of his shows, but the Viva Satellite tour at the (appropriately named for this tour) Fabulous Satellite Lounge show in '98 in Houston was my all time favorite club show by any artist. Bottle Rockets opened with a blistering set and then Todd and the Nervous Wrecks just blew the roof off the place. High energy shows weren't his forte, but damn that was an amazing show. I'm sure it was likely fueled by some non-OTC substances but it was an incredible concert.

We saw him play at Floore's a few years back. There was a guy lurking off stage whose silhouette looked familiar. Todd started into Beer Run, and Robert Earl Keen joined him on stage. Good times

Which song if you don't mind my asking? So many great ones - he had a song for every occasion.

So sad to hear this earlier today. He was one of the greats. Such a true poet and storyteller that I grew up on. Went to a few of his shows from Omaha to LA to SLO. Will miss him and his story telling. Always said if half his drug fueled stories were true I was shocked he was still around. Really kicking myself in the ass now for not making that Englewood show on 30 Oct which was his last one.

Thanks - I'd forgotten about that one. He certainly left behind a legacy of great songs.
