It wasn't the first drop that got me, it was a coiled section of track - started getting a red-out. Rode it one more time to see if it was a fluke - nope.

It's amazing to me how Disney gets it, and virtually no other theme park does. Well, after they built Harry Potter World, it does seem like Universal might get it now, too. Their new park does look amazing. Anyways, we got a season pass to Six Flags last year, mostly because it was basically the same price as a day ticket. We went plenty of times, and Texas Giant and the Batman ride are the only ones I really like. I get why people like Titan and Mr. Freeze, but they aren't really for me. They are really wasting the DC license. DC needs to tell Six Flags to get their act together or they are going to pull the license. They need to go to Disney and Universal and take detailed notes on how to build an immersive world. Just slapping a Superman logo on a standard ride doesn't really do anything to add to the excitement. I did feel like the park was kept pretty clean, but the food was disgusting. They had a major problem with bees at the outdoor drink fountains. Also, they should probably start selling mushrooms to people standing in line for their Spelunker Cave. I'm pretty sure that's the only way anyone will understand that. Even though we got a season pass for something like $50 a person, I still feel like $150 for Disney tickets was a better deal.

I agree their DC implementation is pretty lame.

But I think the main hold up is cost - a well implemented and immersive world like Potter/Mario/Star Wars is a massive undertaking. The Avatar ride alone was half a billion, Star Wars land a billion. No way Six Flags can swing that like a Disney can, especially across dozens of parks.

Maybe they can do something special at their more national draws like Cedar Point and Magic Mountain, but seems like those parks do pretty well just being thrill-seeker extravaganzas.

I'm so old I remember when the Alpine Sleigh Ride at Astroworld had an actual abominable snowman (college kid in a costume) who jumped out at you.
I remember that too, more than I remember the actual ride. I was real young the first time my parents took me on that ride. I had nightmares about the abominable snowman.

Years later, I got to tell my daughter about the Sleigh Ride while waiting in line for Disney's Expedition Everest ride.

One time my employer had a group team-building day at Six Flags. I hadn't been since I was a kid.

We went a few months after the Titan opened. Now generally, I have always liked roller coasters. But that first drop, it was just a bit much for me. First time I ever declined to go for a second ride on a coaster.

Titan was the first and last coaster I ever got off of and felt nauseous. Had to go sit down for a bit. Only rode it twice and had the same reaction both times. Never again.

Took my kids there over christmas last year for nostalgia. Place is so ghetto these days. Or maybe we're just too spoiled by disney and universal.

Same!

Maybe it's some nostalgia and "good old day" syndrome but it seems so much worse than it used to be. The rides are rough, the crowds don't flow, things are dingy and dirty, staff doesn't care about much of anything, prices inside the park are out of control, etc.

The only thing that Disney matches them on is prices inside the park. In every other way they're so much better it kind of ruins other parks for us.

On a whim we went to Silver Dollar City in Branson a few years back and while it's not as ride heavy as SFOT is, the park was head and shoulders better than SFOT. I don't like the whole aspect of Branson, but SDC was worth it for a family with kids that want a day at the amusement park.

I haven't been to Six Flags since the early 90's. But, we took our kids to Dollywood a few years ago and it was a great experience. Very clean and the rides were good.

Silver Dollar City and Dollywood are very similar. So much so that I wouldn't be surprised if they are ran/operated by the same folks. We love Dollywood.

I used to love rollercoasters as a kid, never got scared or sick, and I would ride them over and over if there was no line. I grew up in Arlington, so naturally I had a season pass mostly every summer as a kid. In 2019, my wife and I went to Fuji Q Highland in Japan, and I rode their wild ones and I just didn't enjoy it as much as I used to. I was borderline freaking out, worried some bad **** was going to happen, and it didn't allow me to enjoy it. Not really sure why, but my mind does not enjoy rollercoasters anymore.

Btw, if you love parks with awesome coasters, and you're in Japan, I highly recommend Fuji Q. It's at the base of Mt Fuji, and there are some awesome views while ascending most of the rides.

Gen X really had it good, didn't we? I loved almost everything about childhood in the 70s, high school in the 80s, and college in the 90s. Six Flags was a huge part of it.

I had a cousin who was a huge wuss and when we were little kids, we were on the boat ride at SF and when the cannonballs "came at us", he screamed and hit the deck! He hasn't lived it down yet.

My HS band took a field trip to SF every spring and I remember one year, we were all loaded in the busses to leave for dinner (at Cheddar's, of course...right next door) and we sat in the SF parking lot forever. Turns out that one of the students in our group was busted for shoplifting at a souvenir shop and the band director was trying to work out a deal to get her "released." That was back when shoplifting wasnt an hourly occurrence.

Loved the Cliffhanger. I went to a theme park for the first time in decades recently, King's Island near Cincy. It was fine, but I have no patience for those lines anymore. Getting drenched by the cold ass water on the rapids ride sucked.

Busch Gardens in Williamsburg is probably the best one I've been to, though the nostalgia for SFOT is still there for me. Texas Giant is the roughest rollercoaster I've ever been on, but I always figured The Rattler at Fiesta Texas was worse.

I took my fanily to Silver Dollar City about 15 years ago. We weren't very impressed but it was cold and rainy that day so maybe that was why we didn't enjoy it.

Unfortunately, I can't ride roller coasters any longer due to a back injury. I miss them quite a bit so I didn't get to ride at Dollywood but my kids enjoyed it.

Texas Giant is smooth now. They replaced the wood track with metal, and reconfigured the track taking like 30 seconds off of it.

The water for the rides these days... why would anyone want to get splashed with that nasty looking...........

I think my biggest complaint with Six Flags these days is the theming or lack there of...... The DC stuff especially gets wasted in the park since it's all just thrown in with a "hey we have DC characters, pay us" feel

The New Texas Giant is a great ride. Very smooth. It has just the right amount of intensity for me.

I'm getting that way. Texas Giant is about my limit right now. We went to Universal in Orlando and we rode the Velocicoaster and it was awesome, so the kids wanted to ride again. The second time on it, the whole time I was thinking to myself, "Why am I doing this to myself again? Once was enough."

I still enjoy rides, but I don't need the life or death aspect of it. Guardians of the Galaxy at Epcot is my favorite ride ever, and at no point during the ride do I think to myself that I am going to die. It's just fun. I don't need anything more than that now days. Hagrid's coaster at Universal is another great ride. It's fast, but there are no major drops in it. It's another coaster that is just fun.

I think I would have liked the helix portions, but I felt so bad from the first drop there was no way I could enjoy them.

LOTS of great rides. Lots of loops, barrel rolls, etc., all weaving through natural terrain and trees. And good shows, shops, food, etc.

We went last December and the Christmas lights and themes are fantastic. Going back in a couple of weeks.

Is the Cliffhanger not there anymore? I don't think I've been since 1996. Sounds like I'd be sad to return.

Did anyone else go to the smaller Wet n' Wild in Garland??

Pretty sure it was originally White Water (along with the one closer to Grand Prairie) until WnW acquired both of them at some point.

I had a birthday party at Hanna Barbara Land. I loved that place when I was a kid, but I found a video of it on YouTube a while back and it looked very lame. Don't know what I was thinking. I think it was only open about a year, but it was close by so we went there a lot.

I've been rv'ing the US and decided to hit up the best coasters. That mainly ended up being just going to Cedar Point and then there really isn't much else that compares. I'm hoping something gets built that rivals Top Thrill 2 in intensity soon, as there really isn't anything else to ride after that in the speed / height category and I don't really think there is a close second. I know SFOT is getting a 300 ft coaster this year, which I'm looking forward to, but not expecting it to be earth shattering or anything.

The Cliffhanger style drop tower basically got the axe once all the parks started going with the much taller drop-tower formats. There are still a few sprinkled across a handful of parks though.

Our company rented the park for a private event 20 years ago, and given the short/non-existent lines, I made the mistake of riding the Titan 4x in a row without getting off. This was at about 2pm and I was not right for the rest of the day. I think the G's at the bottom of the first hill forced too much blood out of my head lol

Last time I went to Six Flags was in the 2000s. We had a team building there. Also the last time I rode a rollercoaster. It was one of the DC rides - maybe Batman? It was the one that goes from 0 to 1000mph immediately straight out of a stationary position. Snapped my head back and about gave me whiplash and a concussion. Seems highly dangerous. Felt like I had the **** beat out of me the next day after riding that. No more rollercoasters for me.

Did Dollywood in junior high or so. Don't recall too much about it other than it was in the woods. First time I ever had funnel cake and they a guy making/selling(?) black powder rifles so I hung around that for a while.
