A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway. Devastating, raw, and incredible. If you like Hemingway, this is the best book of his that I've read yet. Hemingway's prose is unmatched; he's simply one of the greatest authors of all time.

The only Hemingway book I've ever read is The Old Man and the Sea which I absolutely despised. How does this rate against that knowing my opinion?

I really like Hemingway but acknowledge he's not for everyone. I'd also try Fiesta (or The Sun Also Rises) as it's a bit more palatable and not too long.

Personally, For Whom the Bell Tolls absolutely kicks ass and I think everyone should give it a shot.

The Holiness of God by RC Sproul. Physical book.

Absolutely demolished this in two sittings. It's certainly short but I was so absorbed in this one. Easy to see why this is Sproul's best selling book.

Completed (audio): The High Window by Raymond Chandler. Motoring through his stories, and loving every minute of it. Not quite up to the standard of Farewell My Lovely and there's a monologue at the end that goes on a bit too long, but still a great read with some excellent writing.

"From 30 feet away she looked like a lot of class. From 10 feet away she looked like something made up to be seen from 30 feet away."

"A check girl in peach-bloom Chinese pajamas came over to take my hat and disapprove of my clothes. She had eyes like strange sins."

Started Nuclear War and lost interest as soon as she went on a rant that our nuclear war planning session in 1960 was the same as the Nazi's Wannsee conference where they planned the Final Solution to exterminate all the Jews. Does this garbage level out or is it all slanted hippie dumbassery?

Finished The Power of the Dog by Don Winslow. Woof, that was brutal. Picking up Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho next, then onto DCC A Parade of Horribles.

My son has been on a classic kick and old philosophy books. Had me read Candide by Voltaire. Kind of wish he hadn't

Right now I juggling Parade of Horribles (DCC), Light Bringer (Red Rising), and Blood Meridian (Cormac McCarthy).

Seven Brief Lessons on Physics by Carlo Rovelli. An overview of modern physics and the questions it seeks to answer in about 75 pages. Very easy to understand, even for someone like me who has no physics education, just an interest in the science.

It's not for everyone. Takes some time to appreciate the pros. Very unique approach. Very polarized book. Interested to see what you think. Bit you have to get past 50% to form an opinion.

Gone with the Wind - Margaret Mitchell. Hardcover 75th anniversary edition.

Wow. I tried typing up a thoughtful review but ended up deleting it a few times. What can I say other than this is one of the greatest books I've ever read. This is a novel that burrows itself into you and you can feel it in your bloodstream.

It haunts you. I've never read anything quite like this before.

5/5.

Great series. I really enjoy Larry's work, and he is an entertaining social media follow as well.

Wrapped up a reread of Dungeon Crawler Carl from B1 to culminating in B8. So begins the wait for B9.

Not sure what I am going to pick up next honestly. I have a ton of series that I need to commit to and just finish.

Maybe I'll let yall pick for me. Narrowed it down to three.

- The Black Company by Glen Cook
- Sun Eater by Chris Ruccio(sp?)
- The Half a King series by Abercrombie. Can't recall actual series name off top of head.

I have read the first book of each one at some point or another. Really enjoyed each one but figure I'd have to restart all over for all of them to finish them out. Which one should I tackle first?

Also super cool to see Watership Down get some nods here. One of my favorite books of all time. So much that it inspired me last year to start hunting down and collecting the books of my youth in their original editions when I read them the first time. Talk about some nostalgia blasts… Watership Down, The Voyages of Dr. Doolittle, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, The Westing Game, etc.

I have Sun Eater high on my TBR. That's where I'd start

Have any of you tried "The Bound and the Broken" series by Ryan Cahill? One of the books was on sale on Audible and seemed interesting. Of course the book that is on sale is the latest release (book 4).

Also just a recommendation that I've not seen on here (it came to mind when someone mentioned the Baldur's gate book). I listened to the audiobook series The Witcher a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend the series, especially if you played/enjoyed the video game. And it's way better than the Netflix series.

I'm two books into Sun Eater and it's been a quality read so far. Book one starts pretty slow but the pace picks up around halfway through.

I'm planning to start book 3 this week or next. A friend of mine just finished 3 and he said it was his favorite so far.

Completed (audio): The Lady in the Lake by Raymond Chandler. Good but not great. I actually like the mystery in this one a bit more than in some of his other novels, but the prose isn't quite as memorable.

"She looked playful and eager, but not quite sure of herself, like a new kitten in a house where they don't care much about kittens."

"But yesterday was a hundred years ago, something crystallized in time, like a fly in amber."
