Saw this today. I enjoyed it. I have no idea how much of it was true to history but they told a good story.

To make it all about the weather report seems like a really narrow telling of a much wider and more interesting story.

They drew up fake plans showing the invasion would happen elsewhere and put them on a corpse dressed as an officer which they dumped at sea knowing that when it washed up on a Spanish beach, the Spanish would share what they'd found with Hitler, all in the hope that it would convince him the invasion would happen elsewhere.

They built a fake army with inflatable tanks in east Britain and deployed Patton there as a decoy.

They turned a number of German spies into double agents to feed fake reports back to Berlin.

All to make the Germans think the invasion would land elsewhere.

The weather report seems kind of small and boring compared to the whole larger picture of deception that went into making DDay a success.
Supposedly Ike had a saying he would throw out during DDay preparations: The plan is nothing; planning is everything.

It's always stuck with me. A succinct encapsulation of a great philosophy.

I am a big fan of WWII movies and I wanted to see this, but the trailer does nothing to entice me.

I was born when Truman was president and I actually remember Eisenhower quite well. I remember what he looked like and sounded like. And of course I have seen interviews with him that he did after his presidency, for the 20th anniversary of D-Day, for example.

I just can't get past this: Brendan Fraser is a good actor, but he is terribly miscast. He looks and sounds nothing like Ike. He does not have the gravitas for this role.

I'll wait for it to appear on TV.

You have a good point.

Tom Selleck played Ike in 2004. I didn't like that casting either, for the same reasons.

Robert Duval played Ike in 1979 and vaguely looked like him, but I don't remember the TV movie well enough to say anything else.

The best portrayal I have seen was the guy who played Ike in The Longest Day. That guy was mostly a set decorator and his voice was dubbed, so......

Saw the movie yesterday. I knew nothing about the storyline of the film or even the history of this event. The movie was great. However Fraser as Eisenhower was definitely miscast.

Interesting fact...Brendan Fraser is 57. Eisenhower was 53 on D-Day.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie, thought the Fraser casting definitely looks off. I enjoy learning these smaller stories and individual contributions to an effort like D-Day. Genuinely so many people had to work together on the planning, from the weather to the deceptions to the crickets the soldiers carried with them.

Saw this and thought it was mediocre. Like others said Fraser was a huge miscast and took me out of every scene he was in. Very interesting story and the acting by the main character was great.

I like Fraser but don't buy him as DDE.

Agree. Ya'll will maybe think I'm crazy but I think Woody Harrelson would pass as pretty fair likeness for a movie.

Harrelson did well in the movie MIDWAY as Admiral Nimitz

I'm in the Charlotte airport on my way home from a Band of Brothers tour. Had never heard of the "Mincemeat" movie.
Looks pretty good.

I will watch it soon.

Seriously, God Bless Brendan Fraser. He is up there with Keanu in terms of endearment from folks.

Seems to be a truly kindhearted sole who would help a stranger in any situation and never mention it. Absolutely sad he was ostracized from Hollywood when he spoke up about being groped by an entertainment executive.

George of the Jungle was one of my favorites as a child. The Mummy, a movie I would watch on cable no matter if came across it in the middle, beginning or ending.

God Bless that man
