Thats cool. I've always wondered why they never did more with that universe. With what little they did, they did a great job with world building that I felt like you could have spun up multiple stories within it.

I've been absolutely in love with Firefly since it aired and even rewatched it again in full recently. It made me sad (all over again) at how short it's run was. There's so much room left for more stories in that universe.

That said, I'm not sure just how good a version of it would be without Whedon in charge and writing it. He spawned a lot of writers, like Gunn, who are similar but not quite at the same level and feel like "knockoff" versions of him.

I think it must be a limited series or something similar. Disney Plus just randomly started promoting the original series on its streaming service out of nowhere this week even though it's been available on there since at least 2021.

Thrilled to hear Fillion and Tudyk have a podcast together, didn't know that.

But if they do a new show, are they just going to leave Tudyk out since they killed him so stupidly in the movie?

I mean, Nathan Fillion has been a Disney/ABC company man for almost 20 years - Desperate Housewives, then Castle, then the Rookie, not to mention cameos in two GOTG movies. If it's getting done big, it's probably them investing in his star power.

Meh...

Firefly isn't the same without Wash and Shepherd Book. Imo, it's too late to reboot. The original cast and their chemistry was the main reason why Firefly was so amazing. And any ridiculous attempt to reboot the series with new actors will be met with eye rolls, from me.

Disney is nearing being incapable of making quality media, these days. When I see "Disney", I'm now conditioned to expect trash and be surprised by decent or good. So far from the day when "Disney" meant quality entertainment.

Oh, a "reboot" with new actors playing those roles...no way, destined to be a failure. But jumping back into it with the same actors playing the same roles just 20 years later.... it wouldn't be the same without wash or shepard, but maybe, if done correctly (and not by Disney).

Reboot might make sense. Its not like Harry Potter, older character might make more sense than younger ones outside of River.

I love Book but he can be replaced.

If this is indeed a proper legacy (limited?) series or movie, I don't see how they do it without creator/showrunner Joss Whedon, who was cancelled years ago. He's just so integral to the vibe/spirit of the show.

I agree completely, but they're doing Buffy without him now and I thought the same about that.

Maybe it's an animated series set before the series or at least before the movie. That way Tudyk could be involved and there would be no shortage of stories.

Serenity was such a great movie and way to end the Firefly series.
Hoped someone would have kept that momentum going, but just never happened.

I don't disagree but it does seems like every show is filled with writers and showrunners doing their best to copy him. They should be able to find a knockoff pretty easily.

A knockoff version is never the same. Is that what we want? A knockoff version of Firefly that kinda-sorta satisfies our craving for more while leaving a somewhat bad taste in our mouth?

Not me. When it comes to entertainment, be it movies or tv or even books, I'm always in the camp of "if you can't guarantee reaching the greatness of the original, then just leave it alone and don't create a second-rate followup that'll just tarnish the product."
