Serenity was such a great movie and way to end the Firefly series.
Hoped someone would have kept that momentum going, but just never happened.
Serenity was a perfect ending. It tied up all the outstanding storylines and character arcs from Firefly. I was completely satisfied. But I'm looking forward to the announcement to see what the vision is. Just wish it wasn't on the Ides of March. Bad omen.

Fillion looks like he lost a lot of weight.

If this is indeed a proper legacy (limited?) series or movie, I don't see how they do it without creator/showrunner Joss Whedon, who was cancelled years ago. He's just so integral to the vibe/spirit of the show.

I don't disagree but it does seems like every show is filled with writers and showrunners doing their best to copy him. They should be able to find a knockoff pretty easily.

A knockoff version is never the same. Is that what we want? A knockoff version of Firefly that kinda-sorta satisfies our craving for more while leaving a somewhat bad taste in our mouth?

Not me. When it comes to entertainment, be it movies or tv or even books, I'm always in the camp of "if you can't guarantee reaching the greatness of the original, then just leave it alone and don't create a second-rate followup that'll just tarnish the product."

We'll do what everyone else does for terrible reboot/sequel, if it sucks, pretend it never existed.

I had a dream last night that the announcement was going to be them doing a Firefly themed game show.

That would be quite disappointing.

As I've gotten past 50, I've noticed my perception shifting on reboots/remakes somewhat to where I'm usually just happy to see some old friends together again.

Late to this thread but been following the "announcements", super intrigued to see where this is going.

At this point I'd be in for some kind of reboot, but not sure how it would work sans Whedon.

Whedon's writing on Firefly and Serenity were a huge part of the appeal of the show for me; I'm sure most would agree that his absence from this effort (whatever it is) is a potential problem. However, the fact that does give me some reassurance is that the original cast (notably Nathan, Morena, and Alan) have had a lot of great roles in other very successful shows. That experience should help a lot.

How about a cartoon in-between show and Movie?

I was right.

Well. I'll be intrigued I guess. But skeptical. I typically hate animated series. It makes some sense in this case.

I'm excited for the show's return and it's another great segue to get one of my kids to enjoy a franchise with me as she loves animation like nobody's business.

We watched Terminator Zero and Predator: KIller of Killers last year where she would never have watched any of the live action stuff. Ditto with Star Wars Visions leading her to embrace the original SW CLone Wars, then the more stylized verison.

Add Vox Machina in there and there is enough proof of concept out there that this can work.

Will give this a shot. Lots of ways they can go with this.
God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

If your kid watched those animated shows and liked them, I feel pretty confident they (and you) would like Blue Eye Samurai if you haven't seen it yet.

But I'm intrigued and optimistically excited by this animated twist for Firefly.

I loved Blue Eye Samurai and can't wait for season 2, but there is no universe in which that show is appropriate for kids.

Ehhh, regarding violence, his kid has already watched the animated Predator movie. Regarding the sexuality, I don't recall those details, so he might want to check those out first. But it depends on the kid's age and maturity and personality. I let my son watch things at a lot younger age than many on this board, just like my parents did with me.

As you admit, you can't recall the sexuality details. Yes, he "might" want to check that out first. The violence and gore ramps up to 11 in the next-to-last episode too. A parent's responsibility is to check for themselves. Don't take someone else's word for it.

Lol, hey, like I said, I'm really hazy on the sexual aspects of the show. It very well be too much. And yes, of course, I don't expect him to just throw the show on for his kid based solely on my recommendation without checking into it first. Glad we agree on a parent's responsibility. I just know it was both incredible animation and story.
