Not sure how many of y'all watch/listen to The Rewatchables, Bill Simmons' 1-2 hour breakdown of his favorite movies with sports themed categories but the latest one is probably one of the best he's ever done.

He actually has Steven Spielberg as his guest along with long-time collaborator Sean Fennessey and this one has it all, brilliant insights from Steven, hilarious banter, especially as Steven tries to figure out the categories (it's obvious he's not aware of it at all), and just a really fun 2 hours.

If you don't care about that movie you probably won't like it but if you've never listened/watched to Rewatchables you should give it a shot for a movie you do like. They did an epic one of Boogie Nights a few years ago.

My buddy just sent me this. It's an hour talking to Spielberg about my favorite movie. I'll definitely be watching!

I'm a big fan of the Rewatchables, I listened to the one on Animal House yesterday while I was cutting the grass. Crazy to me that they got Spielberg for one of these, that's incredible.

My favorite episode they've ever done was about The Town, with Ryen Russillo as the guest commentator. I've listened to that one multiple times and it never disappoints.

At the end Steven says he will come back and do Jaws with them. Now that would be INCREDIBLE.

Thanks for starting this. I'm a weekly listener, and I've thought we should start a Rewatchable Thread for sometime, maybe this could be the start of it....

I haven't listened to this one yet, but last month's comedy series was great. Anytime Kyle Brandt is on, it is a 10/10, must-listen. He is the perfect blend of great podcaster, movie buff, and jock. He also does a great Gus Johnson impersonation for the latter categories.

This is the best film podcast that I listen to, imo. If you know the weekly movie well, it's a must-listen. I still catch myself listening even if I haven't seen the film in discussion.

I caught the Ringer team when they came through Austin last year, where Bill, Sean, Chris, and Shea drafted a starting 5 of fictional basketball characters. Shea killed it when he drafted Brendan Fraser's basketball character from Bedazzled when the devil made him the best basketball player ever.

One of the best bits they did was when they did Star Wars with Sean and CR and Bill actually calls Russillo during it and his take on the movie was hilarious. Sean and CR almost fell out of their chairs laughing.l

This latest one for 2001 I would recommend watching it on Netflix just to see Sean's reactions during it, it's great. I'll admit to mowing my lawn many times to previous podcasts, it really makes the 1.5 hours fly by.

I'm with you on Kyle, he's the best. His Gus Johnson impersonation when they did Fargo was incredible.

I listen to specific episodes about movies I love, while gaming.

I would appreciate hearing Spielberg's insights on filmmaking, but I am not a 2001 fan.

ETA: I listened to his 50 most rewatchable movies of the 21st century episode, yesterday. Gotta say, I wouldn't have at least half of his list on my list.

Yeah Bill's top 50 of the 21st century list was pretty awful. To be fair his criteria was pretty simple, how many times did his family rewatch those movies so it skewed big time to what his wife and kids wanted to see. It's certainly an odd list.

I loved CR's reaction when he heard how low Bill had Sicario, one of CR"s favorites. I think Bill had it at 43 or something lol.

A Space Odyssey is not watchable, let alone "rewatchable."

What are your thoughts on Limitless with Bradley Cooper and DeNiro ?

I know Simmons raves about it...was it his #1 or 2 pick overall but I thought it was good but didn't think it was incredible. Would it make my list of top 50 of the 21st century. Probably but that's not really saying a lot because there just hasn't been that many indelible films the last 25 years.

I liked the concept of the movie and thought it was very interesting but it's very similar to Lucy, which I saw before I saw Limitless so that might have hurt it although Limitless came out first.

I wish the Star Wars clip was a little longer as Russillo then goes on to state that Luke probably was whacking it to the video of Leia...c'mon R2 play it again, play it again!

Not a fan of "Number 16, Limitless"?? As a Bill Simmons fan since the Page 2 days (/Redstone), I enjoy the Rewatchables pods when I've seen the movie.

Actually, Redstone was probably reading Simmons on the Boston AOL Digital City.

I've been following Bill since the Page 2 days as well.

I actually got an e-mail posted when Bill had mentioned in one of his columns that A Few Good Men had the most star power of any film in the 90's. I countered that True Romance had more and listed all the stars as well as Tarantino for screenplay. He not only posted my e-mail but it had a pic of Christopher Walken with the title "True Romance has more than a few good men."

Still remember my buddies telling me "Dick, you made the mailbag and it even has a picture!" Simpler times back then.

I've got True Romance playing right now on Netflix. Alabama just opened up the bag and discovered Clarence didn't bring back her clothes, but Drexl's stolen drugs.

Finished this episode shortly after release, have listened to almost all (definitely no Koppelman), and return occasionally depending upon interest level / personal re-watch.

That was pure joy from beginning to end.

Yes, it was awesome getting to listen to Spielberg wax poetic about 2001 (along with everything else), but just as enjoyable as witnessing Fennessey essentially having a giddy, two-hour bucket list moment. Bill, too, was amazing, never not fully embracing the spirit of the show, while you could tell Spielberg was having a legit blast the entire time.

The whole thing was honestly kind of surreal. I've listened to countless Rewatchables episodes over the years and this one felt like my friends' movie podcast being visited by the Movie God himself, and the Movie God somehow loving every minute.

Just so fun, and so cool.

Can't wait for the Jaws episode now!

Can you imagine Steven's reaction to Bill's Quint impression? Man that show will be an all-timer. I really hope they can make it happen.

Love the Rewatchables. I probably only listen to about half the episodes because they do a bunch of movies I haven't seen. 2001 being one of those. I'd love to listen to this one, but do I need to actually care about the movie? Sometimes you don't.

Love The Rewatchables pod. If I've seen the movie, I'm a weekly listener.

Heck, the pod has made me go watch certain movies so I can enjoy their talks about it. I'd love a Rewatchables thread on here.

Listened to the first 45 minutes or so. You could tell me Spielberg is an alien and I'd believe you - massively rich, one of the most famous people alive, totally down the earth and humble with a steel trap mind at age 79.

He talks about meeting Stanley Kubrick on the set of the Shining and worrying that Kubrick wouldn't know who he was - this after making Close Encounters and Jaws.

Great trivia that the Overlook' hotel's staircase set is the same stage that the Raiders' Well of Souls was built on.

Bill calling Spielberg a psycho is fantastic. Sean's reactions the entire pod were top notch.
