I have...

a two year old spot of mud on my wall I will never wash off.

3 bags of stinky dirty clothes.

been stopped at airport security checks regarding the axes in my trunk.

done more manual labor (though still not much) than a jew has done since working of the pyramids.

seen a snake beheaded, skinned and then seen the same knife dipped in a jar of peanut butter.

had my first beer at the chicken.

eaten things out of puddles.

thrown donuts (this was most of the "manual labor".

Become more obsessed with burning things

Educated my friends on bonfire traditions, then forced them to help me build a 20 foot version at home...

Drank water out of a helmet with half sweat half hot nasty water.

been more bruised and battered than ive ever been.

Earned friends and lost friends,

Gotten bruises and given bruises,

Sharpened tools and sharpened myself,

Sniffed Snuff and snuffed sniffles,

Burned logs and logged burns,

Wired in a swing and swung while I was wired.

I've cut, topped, carried, loaded, unloaded, stacked, wired, doused, and lit thousands of logs. I've spent thousands of dollars, miles, and hours just to watch all my efforts get burned to the ground...

...and loved every minute of it.

I've had beers with friends and in memory of them too.

I've watched an 80 year old woman take an axe to a tree better than anyone I have ever seen, and a father take coffee-can sized chips from a mighty oak.

I've earned scars that I wear like badges of honor, and made friends who will marry me and bury me.

I've learned to love not what I do, but who I do it with.

I know the value of a hard day's work and that I wouldn't trade a day in the woods for a thousand on some sandy beach.

I've lead, followed, and sometimes just gotten out of the way.

I've lived, laughed, and loved harder than I ever have before, and ever will.

Because of Bonfire, I'm where I am and who I am; and Will Never Forget.

Made some friends

Met some good people.

Met some people I wished I hadn't met. (not as many as the good ones though)

Cut, killed, f#%&ed, and slammed logs

Got my first double bit axe

Honed my tree killing skills

Honed my axe

Become obsessed with my axe

Knocked two moses *****s on their arses while getting some of my crew's pots back that they swiped.

Caught donuts in my mouth thrown into the air by a Jew

Used the same knife, to spread peanut butter on my bread, that someone used to skin a snake and put peanut butter on his bread

Made some friends

I was about 20 ft. behind you that day, and I thought we were fixing to have to take on the whole crew....

We could take 'em...

Because of Bonfire, I am writing my readmission essay for fall of 2006 to get my Class of 2003 ring in 2007. Let's see how many 0.00 semesters they give YOU.

Oh, and friends, brothers, sons, grandsons..., eternal stank, an excuse not to shave, and a HUGE set of brass ones that I just can't keep from smacking people with.

Dude, you've had seven spring semesters, two fall semesters ('00 and '01), and six summers in which you could have earned hours for your ring. Something tells me Bonfire isn't the only reason you're writing your readmission essay.

Oh sure, there were other contributing factors, but it was Bonfire that taught me that there are things more important and effective than a diploma. I was out of school in '03 with 94 hours, but Bonfire gave me the skillset to start a business I'm pretty proud of and now I consult other successful businesses.

So because of Bonfire, I am also getting more out of my Aggie education than my naked finger would lead you to believe.

Thanks to Bonfire I...

Have driven a car straight into the ground doing thousands of dollars of damage I can't afford to repair

Consider roadkill scavenger hunts a fun way to pass a Saturday afternoon (anyone remember that cow outside the Cut site?)

Drank beer, killed trees, bled, sweat, died, wept, unloaded, loaded, ****ed out logs, chained up trees, duct-taped people, hatcheted down trees bigger around than I am, breathed in dirt sand and diesel fumes, torched pallets, handcuffed a black person, swung axes, swung machetes, swung fists and so much more with people I'd never have met otherwise

Made more shady deals than the devil, and spent more money than God could dream of.

Gone broke more than once.

Eaten some horribly disgusting things.

Drank some horribly disgusting things.

Come to believe that nothing beats a cold night, with the wind blowing 30+ mph, around 30 degrees F, smoking a cigarette, watching everything I've worked for two months to see come to full fruition in front of my eyes due to the amazing effort of kids working for no payment except that of respect and satisfaction.

Learned to love life, live life, and savor life for moments like the above without reservation, regret, or apology.

i've become someone I would have never become.

lost street cred then got it back cause i threaten people with an axehandle

I've broken a promise (to not come out to stack to my mom) because i loved it so much (she understood)

lost girlfriends and potential many more ones

become a hero in my family and my old neighborhood because I became something no other person like me has ever done

sacrificed grades and money that i couldn't afford to (never blame bonfire for your grades, you made a decision, and you live with it

given the chance to prove myself in something that I said i would never do

come to know and love a group of people who no matter what I feel like is part of my family

cried after last stack in the pouring rain on my knees 2 years ago, because i did it for my grandmother, who died the year before after I didn't visit cause I poured my time into it

had my family realize how much I love this place, leading yells on a log before burn my freshman year (looking in to my family's eyes during the spirit because they realized what was going on, and seeing them smile)

got my ass beat as well as beat some ass

committed a felony

a set of smelly clothes that my older sister tried to wash (and I almost killed her)

gotten rid of my fear of open heights

dug depper within myself than I ever had before

got phone calls from people back in Houston calling me insane after I was on TV all over Houston my freshman year

had people realize race isn't a factor in what really matters

become a target of the administation

not slept for 2 weeks straight

had my room searched by RAs for an entire year for axehandles

learned not to regret a damn thing

I learned the true meaning of commitment, sacrifice, hard work, and friendship.

I learned that a group of committed, hard working friends willing to sacrifice can accomplish anything.

I learned it is the journey that is important.

I learned that I love the smell of diesel, stale donuts and coffee early on a cold fall morning.

I learned that if you are supported by great people (Lil Jimmy, Pablo, B, and Todd) you can do more than you ever thought you could.

I learned that you do not want to use pina colada air freshener to get the smell of pepperoni and jalapeno pizza and cheap beer out of a Blazer.

I learned about life.

BTHOB!
