Not saying its not a bad idea to do so.

But, if Sims' case stands, SB shouldn't be blamed completely for not following a procedure that didn't exist.

You know exactly why he time his announcement to occur in mid-September.

It precludes a shot of public sympathy for the students who, if it had occurred later, would have already held cut and stack in good faith.

Now he can say that he went on record as saying a permit won't be issued, so don't even go out into the woods and waste your time.

There's no doubt what's going on here. Influential citizens in the community want bonfire stopped. They're the ones who have his ear.

Students don't vote, and therefore there are not part of his constituancy.

I think we can rest assured that people who don't disclose every little piece of info that doesn't belong in the public forum are working very hard to fix this, and we can rest assured it will be fixed. There is no way that a major issue would have been allowed to slide if they had known about it.

I think we should all thank the pots and Bonfire lovers who are working their asses off right now to fix this problem and keeping Bonfire going for us. If you have a problem with how things are being done step up. Don't whine on the internet. Show up on Oct. 7th. Talk to the board.

Because of what Bonfire has done for me in the past, if given two choices, one not doing anything this fall, or two, cutting, loading, unloading, stacking but not burning, I would choose the latter.

Believe me, I want that fire to burn and will not be content with it not burning. But get a lot more out of building than burning. Yes, this is that old cliché, but I believe the organization should stay on course as they have every year.

As Lew said, they are working their asses off right now to fix the problem, and I have faith in them. I don't doubt that it will burn. I won't throw in the towel due to internet speculation.

Let's hope that El Nino sends some rain this way...a burn ban would probably be just that...a Burn ban...

Armadillo,

I agree with you about the importance of cut and stack, but doesn't burn raise revenue to meet expenses? Can SB sustain a year of cut and stack without the ticket revenue that comes in on burn night?

Lew, you don't even believe in Christmas...

This seems like a low hurdle compared to past issues. There's still plenty of options and plenty of time to solve this. Add in the fact that the supposed denial of permits has not yet happened and some of you are getting a bit ahead of yourself.

in reply to dual, unless there is alot of support that comes in between now and next year it would be difficult to sustain another year without a burn this year. I believe that nick was trying to make a point, not suggesting an actual solution to the situation.
