People who compare 9/11 and 11/18 are idiots.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to fit 9/11 or Bonfire into any of the 3 categories. I was merely using them as examples of ways people die.

Both 9/11 and Bonfire sucked the air and life out of Aggieland. Bonfire was more personal, 9/11 ripped away all the ideas we had about what was real and what was right. One was an accident and one was an act of aggression, but both destroyed a way of life. They aren't the same - but the trauma and horror in the aftermath was pretty darn close.

does it bother you that I think you're an idiot? Well...that is...if you think comparing the two is applicable...

Square, in the grand scheme of things they aren't comparable. But on the personal level they are. For people here they had a friend, a family member, or a loved one going to something that was supposed to be routine and in a moment a life was ripped from them in a horrific way. The same applies to many tragedies. No tragedy is the same, but on a personal level there are many similarities between them all.

my statement was not made with regard to the degree of tragedy or personal loss that occured during both. A family that lost a loved one in either one would understandably feel an immense and unimaginable amount of sadness and grief.

The uncomparable comment was directed at those that think that blaming a flight attendant for "not stopping a bunch of muslims" is even an ok thing to say after being told that Aggies "couldn't even build a Bonfire". Two wrongs don't make a right, and to say that to a flight attendant is insanely ignorant, horribly ugly, and just awful.

And for her to say that to an Aggie is the same thing. Whether it was born of malice or ignorance does not matter, the words bite the same either way. It was that persons way of making a comparison statement that would affect the flight attendant just as badly as her statement would affect an Aggie. Would anyone ever say that to a flight attendant? Barring alcohol, not in a million years.

This is an internet forum. Lots of people talk about what they are going to do. Anonymity can bring out the worst in people. There is a great penny arcade comic that illustrates this, but I don't feel like finding it.

Take every post with a grain of salt.

Good point. Anonymity screws with people's heads quite often...
