Does not mean I am oppressed.
How about you answer what it does mean since that's what I asked? Let's eliminate the confusion of terms.
Fine. Either way I am not "oppressed".Aggrad08 said:
Sure fine I guess. I just find abortion a pretty weak stand in for that line. And it seems to me far more "forceful" to outlaw a thing than permit it.

It's impossible to have a productive discussion. In your mind there are only 2 things on the menu.
1. What you would call freedom, which is actually liberalism.
2. Authoritarianism.

Good to hear, and I agree you aren't. Neither are your fellow Christians. Glad we are on the same page. Reading this thread you really have to wonder

To be honest I think it's really ****ty to tell someone to leave a country if they have complaints about it. You don't know anyone else's situation or how hard it would be to do so. This is especially true for people who don't have the means to do so. But if Texas continues down the road of Christian nationalism as it likely will, I obviously will not remain here and certainly won't raise my kids here
And it's a logical fallacy to equate your Christian nationalist beliefs with my beliefs. You really don't know much about my beliefs. You probably assume I'm a registered democrat who loves Biden and Kamala.
I'm an American who has seen abundant evidence that this country is broken and is not working for most people. I want a country that works for everyone, not just rich white men. CN will take us backwards in so many ways.
I have no desire to control you or stop you from practicing your faith. But I have a big problem with you trying to control others with your personal beliefs. A huge one. We are not the same, derm.

Do you really think this country only works for "rich white men?"
That's such an inane and silly statement that is completely at odds with reality. Females and minorities are out pacing white males in virtually every available metric, particularly in the under 40 catagories.

Thank you! White men are only surpassed by Native American men when it comes to alcoholism, drug addiction, overdose, and suicide. Universities and doctoral programs admit and graduate more women than men, and the ratio grows worse every year. On average, the outlook for young white men is as bad as it has ever been in the US when it comes to career success, a sense of purpose, and a happy family life. White male privilege seems a bit overrated. Sadly, some people will hear these statistics and consider all that suffering a sign of progress

I rarely watch politics. I am a Christian with conservative beliefs who happens to live in the US. And the great state of Texas. And the beautiful country west of CS.barbacoa taco said:dermdoc said:Fine. Either way I am not "oppressed".Aggrad08 said:

I'm not sure if you've paid attention to some of those conservative Christian gatherings like CPAC and one other that I forget the name of, but they have in recent years constantly framed Christianity as under attack and have spoken about modern society in that context. They say pretty dark things too, like "this means war" and perpetuate the groomer panic and describe any forces outside their circle as "evil." It's hard to understate how dangerous this type of language is. But it's effective, and it's influenced a lot of legislation and legislators. That's why I'm speaking out against it so strongly.
You are way, way behind on how much the fantastic amounts of oil money have changed who are the haves and have-nots at the upper levels (corp stock owners).barbacoa taco said:
I could have had a better choice of words. Because you're right, we've made a ton of progress in this regard. Still, we know who our government really works for and who is calling all the shots. Not necessarily all "rich white men" but the big business interests who will make sure they get what they want, and we all know the common demographic of these folks.
And as far as history goes, yes, this country since it was founded catered to that group of people. It's taken two and a half centuries to get over that hump and there's still work to do and a lot of obstacles in the way, one of them being P2025

Meh. I think the racist post about "white, rich, Christians" is smaller.Aggrad08 said:
It's always the smallest men that come in with these types of posts.
Funny, how none of the people you decry as needing victimhood were the ones claiming it in this thread. But I would hate for evidence to change your views
Substitute African American for white in barbacoa taco's posts and tell me if the posts are racist.Aggrad08 said:

Your first instinct was a thoughtless comparison to Stalin or mao. If you received half the nonsense you threw out your blinders might begin to come off.
And let's be real, I'm not the one with the posting history of losing sight of things when it comes to politics….

And where did I mention Stalin or Mao?
Wow this is bizarre.
And you bring up something from 14 years ago?
I do not post on politics so I would not know. I did not know if I "cheered" on a post about atheist regimes I was automatically cheering on Stalin or Mao. And I just wish I was as smart as you.Aggrad08 said:dermdoc said:Substitute African American for white in barbacoa taco's posts and tell me if the posts are racist.Aggrad08 said:

No "rich black men isn't racist". And the poster clarified and admitted he worded it poorly.
In fact if you simply change the ethnicity or sex you have a typical politics board post. Tell me how long it will take you to find a post decrying "white suburban women" over there.
And no I don't really consider that racism either, more just bad generalizations-I know it's just a matter of degrees.
This is what I'm getting at it's so normalized you don't even see it.
No I wasn't bringing things up from 14 years ago, I was bringing up times I recall you admitting you overstepped or got too emotional, and I know they weren't that far back because there is no way I'd remember that far.
As far as Stalin or mao, you were cheering on a post about "atheist regimes".
Tell me, if I got that wrong, who exactly did you have in mind?
You have got to get over this pre determination that if you are a conservative Christian, you are a bad egg.Aggrad08 said:
I drink either with you anytime. I think you probably are a good egg deep down.
