Two days ago. They've since updated their article with an editor's note but have left the article up.

Spiritual warfare is absolutely real, and there are so many openings to the demonic: pornography use, drug addiction, the occult. Keep your soul in proper order, attend frequent confession, pray unceasingly.

Ironic? No, purposeful. Such as "the daily beast" and the bitten apple logo. Satanic symbolism is widespread. May God help and protect us.

Witches couldn't touch him. He knew exactly how to shield himself from evil.

I'm not clicking on that either but I do believe that God is in control and that he is always in control and that, for reasons unknown to us, he allowed Charlie to die and to join him in Paradise. I trust God and I trust his plan. I only wish that Jesus will come later today and put an end to this horrible world.

Curses…. It doesn't work that way.

Seems there was a lot more to this story. So much so, the Kirks met with an exorcist (per Megan Kelley) the night before he was killed.

Do you believe in spells and incantations? Serious question.

ETA: I'm not asking about the "practice of divination" because that is a different question. I'm asking if you believe those actions have power over people and events.

It seems like the world would be a much different place if people were able to cast spells or curses with any type of consistency. As it stands, it seems more like people assigning supernatural blame for when bad things happen and attributing to divine influence anything good that happens. If it's all random chance whether a spell or curse "works" or not and neither outcome is obviously supernatural then why not just call the whole thing as being up to chance?

The answer depends on exactly what you are asking. Yes, I believe in "spells" in a manner that can open the "castor" and participants to evil and bring evil into the world. No, I do not believe someone else's sin/spell has any effect on me if I am protected by the armor of God. Refer to the first post I made on this thread. The second one you are referencing was more "tongue in cheek". Nonetheless, IF Megan Kelley's story is true, the Kirk's were rattled by the rumors that witches were wishing them evil.

Is is really all random though? I mean if I decide to kill someone and go about planning and executing such a plan, aim and then shoot- was that really just "chance" that occurred?

I don't believe any of that. It's not god letting things happen. God is not In control of anything in this world. This is not his realm. It is ours. That's why it's a mess. There is no "evil" or "good"….there is just "stuff". Things just happen. God didn't "bring Charlie home". Charlie got shot because he said things that angered someone and that person made a decision to kill him. It's no more complicated than that. I think god exists but I'm not so sure he has any input, good or bad, to this world.

As for witches, ghosts, spells, ooga booga, hooby jooby stuff…

That's stuff of Hollywood.

That doesn't sound like you're talking about someone casting a spell or curse which is the topic of discussion here. I am saying that I see no reason to think that curses and spells are effective in any observable way. Of course people can still take direct action which is less reliant on chance, no one is disputing that.

Hollywood? Well they definitely cornered the market on what we think those witches, devils, and demons look like. The truth is more likely that they look nothing like that and appear less offensive in order to do what they have done since the beginning- lie.

But back to spells and curses. I believe there may be some truth (if you believe in God and the devil) that certain objects associated with real evil, like a video of a violent act (rape/murder) are indeed cursed. This evil is transmitted through it use and in that sense can effectively do harm to one's spirit. This is why porn is evil. It seems innocuous at first, but with habitual use will cause spiritual damage.

Blessed objects operate similarly. Take a blessed object like a rosary or bible. Again, with habitual use will convey graces from God that can bring about good.
