If you want lower interest rates, this isn't the way to do it or if you're worried about higher prices from tariffs, get rid of the tariff.

So the same people already paying very little net income taxes will now not pay this quasi consumption tax too?

That it made those not currently paying have skin in the game was one of the best features of these tariffs in the first place.

I wish both sides would come together and pass a balance budget. Tariff revenue and increases in any taxes have to go to the federal debt.

This is not mentioned nearly enough. The regressive element is one of the main reasons Democrats are so against tariffs. Well, that and because they are Trump's baby.

Stupidest idea yet! What is it with politicians constantly rewarding those who don't contribute? The same people probably sitting around *****ing about 'tariffs'. Also, we finally have a mechanism to begin paying off some of our debt and this idiot wants to exacerbate the problem? And create more inflation? Hey Josh, if you must, how about a refund for those of us who already pay six figures in taxes?

Seems logical and efficient

1) pay a huge bureaucracy to collect taxes
2) pay another huge bureaucracy to evaluate eligibility for a program that provides handouts to people paying the tax collected in step 1
3) pay another huge bureaucracy to distribute the taxes collected in step 1 back to the people paying the taxes in step 1
4) say screw it, hook up with Lina Kahn, and have stupid socialist babies

Seriously, there's absolutely no way to do this better.

Im all for it...as long as the bill includes an $80,000 pay reduction for everyone in congress to symbolically reduce the additional debt this will cause.

I thought one reason for the tariffs was to reduce the deficit. Why give rebates? Call it what it is, a tax on the goods you chose to purchase, and move on.

You could reduce their pay to zero and it would have limited impact on most of them. There are a lot of other ways to get paid as a Congressman that is worth a lot more than their salary. Some of them are even legal.
