Maybe we've should have paid better attention to the Dark Forest Theory.......

Quote:

The Dark Forest theory is a proposed solution to the Fermi Paradox, suggesting that the universe is a "dark forest" where intelligent civilizations remain silent and hidden to avoid detection and potential destruction by others.

This theory, popularized by Liu Cixin's "The Dark Forest" novel, posits that the inherent self-preservation instinct of any advanced civilization would lead it to prioritize its own survival above all else, making any communication or display of presence a potential risk.

I don't take his claims seriously. He's otherwise an excellent scientist, but he has some kind of thing about trying to make stupid claims about aliens from outside our solar system.

Harvard gets way too much federal funding. Good grief.

Or maybe not an interstellar comet.

There may be many sources of debris in the universe. For example, it might be debris ejected by a supernova a few billion years ago.

It's a giant dog turd shaped ship sent here to communicate with our humpback whales.

Sounds crazy, right? Yet somehow that movie script was green lit back in the 1980s.

I am guessing his dude is working an angle for more interstellar alien invasion federal grant money since his "climate science" grants were canceled.....

This is just the 3rd interstellar object humans have discovered in our 25,000 plus year history.
Quote:

Three interstellar objects have been discovered passing through our solar system: 1I/Oumuamua, 2I/Borisov, and 3I/ATLAS. The third one, 3I/ATLAS, was recently discovered and is currently passing through our solar system

What is more likely?

A) Aliens are sending interstellar probes billions of miles prior to their invasion

or

B) Humans finally find a way to detect interstellar space rocks and comets that have been flying through our solar system for the last few billion years.

The bold part explains a lot. Also more proof that we are not intelligent at all since we are basically the universe version of 1985 walking around with a boom box on our shoulder blaring music as loud as possible.

So if someone is sending out probes, then the last thing we want is for them to detect our presence because those sending out probes would not be those trying to stay hidden. Sending out probes is the sign of a very violent civilization that will destroy anything in its path.

Kind of like the old "I thought he was going to hit me so I hit him back first" from an old Andy Capp cartoon.

One. Username…
Two. I don't care what anyone says, that was a fun take on Trek. I visited a buddy in San Francisco (he actually lived in Alameda at the time), and the first thing I said when he picked me up was, "I am looking for your nuclear wessels."

"Maybe we've should have paid better attention to the Dark Forest Theory......."

Greg Bear in 1987, wrote a Sci-Fi novel called "The Forge of God" that addressed the worst case scenario for Earth for ignoring this theory. It was quite good.

Star Trek movies SUCKED until #12 "Star Trek".

Violating "Dark Forest" theory by broadcasting radio waves reminds me of the people on the rooftop welcoming the aliens in "Independence Day" .

Technically, God and his angels (the good ones and the evil ones) are aliens.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1

Wonderful movie. Here's a rough animation scene that was supposed to bridge Captain Sternn and the zombie bomber acts. You can see Hanover Fiste's hand holding Loc Nar in the opening here. It's not the final version which would have appeared in Heavy Metal though.
