On the dumbness scale I'd rank this just a notch below taking your mistress to a Coldplay concert and getting caught in front of the entire world. If the secret service agent had been trying to sneak his mistress on the flight instead of his wife, then it would be Coldplay Concert level dumbassery.

No agent involved with the Butler shooting was fired. The head girl resigned but someone should have been canned for that crap! The head of the SS didn't plan and execute that op.

Yeah, a guy that is responsible for the safety of the President of the United States and relied upon to make good, sound decisions should totally get a mulligan for this. Are you for real? It wasn't like an airline pilot giving his wife a jumpseat spot.

Who knows if we find out what happens to that guy, or the wife for that matter over in the Air Force handling of her part in this, but I got a sneaking suspicion that the next cool overseas destination trip by Trump, that particular agent won't be on the detail traveling over there.

I said a In a previous post that this wasn't a crime, but technically it sounds like they did at least flirt with an 'impersonating a federal officer' charge on the wife who was pretending to be something she wasn't. Which they probably won't go there but just dumb, dumb, dumb by them.

Also I would be curious what that couple's remaining plans were. She was going to stay in the same hotel room as the hubby? Is that allowed for Secret Sevice on active detail on overseas trip to have a spouse staying with them? I'd be curious how many agency violations the 'Let's make a Boondongle of this POTUS Trip!' Idea had besides just sneaking on the Cargo plane.

i can see this happening in the past when maybe nobody was paying attention to security. My guess is this was probable a common practice that got exposed.

If his wife has exposure to an 'impersonating a federal officer' criminal charge I think if they asked for his quiet resignation as an alternative route to go then he'd probably have to accept that deal without any 'raising hell'

Well, it is a cool story.

I am sure they'll laugh about it in 30 or 35 years.

Was it a military flight transporting cargo? I think that it is sometimes allowed for active duty personnel to request seating on military flights with available seating to travel but I don't know under what conditions or if that would apply to an aircraft flying part of a presidential details. But if some cargo flight was going across the USA and some active duty person was going to travel that way during a leave then I believe they could apply to catch a ride, or at least that used to be an option.

This is pretty weird, but couldn't he have just asked if she could've come? Maybe they don't allow that and fine if they don't, but this seems like a very weird way to go about it. Just totally screwed his career.

His wife is military and has space an eligibility rights…however the authority lies with the mission owner. In this case WHMO.

It's not a matter of "smuggling" it's just someone didn't do the right paperwork and thought they could get someone on board without getting mission owner approval.

And he didn't think to ask his supervisors (boss) if it was okay beforehand? He innocently assumed it was okay and then he and his wife were surprised when his supervisors discovered she was trying to get on the flight and booted her off?

Not buying it.

Probably her idea and he wanted the nagging to stop, that or she offered a trade of some sort.
