I finished it last night. It is good, historical, entertainment if you have a week of evenings to kill. Also good for a weather day (about four hours total). I would not call it perfect, but it is worth watching. It is also interesting to ponder what America would look like today if Garfield had not been nominated or if he had survived the assassination.

I was watching Netflix’s new series Death by Lightning. It’s set in Chicago, 1880 - and this establishing scene pops up.

In the foreground:

I watched this on a plane to Hawaii back in December since I had 8 hours to kill. I really liked it, especially since all I knew about Garfield was what Johnny Cash said it the song about him.

Also, beards were a lot cooler in the 1880s, except for Chester Arthur

I enjoyed this series despite the flaws. As was mentioned, the language used in the series was really jarring. Almost distractingly so to me. Even in the bawdiest of taverns in Chicago or New York at the time nobody used language like that, let alone sitting US Congressmen and Senators. They made Roscoe Conkling into a complete villain with a racist attitude towards Blanche Bruce. In reality Conkling mentored and promoted Bruce in the Senate, and Bruce named his son after Conkling.

The guy that played Guiteau was incredible. What a great job by him.

In my opinion, this period in American history was the greatest era for fashion for men. The clothing styles, the wild facial hair, the hats. Awesome. I wish I could dress like that and people not think I am an insane person.

Page 2 and no mention of Die Hard 3? I'm disappointed.

I watched this, It was good. Had some real stuff in it and some not real stuff in it, but it was done well

Definitely watch Miracle: the boys of '80 about the USA hockey team. It was really good.

I did a report on him in elementary school. He could write the same thing with both hands at the same time in two different languages. I always was impressed by that.

I knew a guy who could write his name, in cursive, upside down and backwards (last letter to first letter) and do so at the same speed as if he was signing something. Not sure if he could do other words or not. Sort of hurt my head to watch him do that.

I watched it, and I really liked it, and I'm currently reading the book that inspired it as my biography of Garfield for my presidential biographies list.
