Teaching isn't considered a respectable profession anymore. There didn't used to be as many of these issues around because so many teachers had full careers as teachers, and a smaller amount of young teachers were in the classroom.
Now, nearly half of teachers quit within five years, and there's a constant supply of new teachers who 1. are close to the same age as their students (in high schools) and 2. haven't really seen how bad some decisions can turn out. The lack of maturity leads to bad decisions. (For the second one, I really think we need to quit treating college students as kids and make them be the young adults they are.)
