The racial makeups of universities have changed a lot since the 2023 Supreme Court decision on affirmative action. And this website allows you to look at this.

Of course re: the title, 2018 is well before 2023. But I just think the drop in whites at TAMU is almost entirely accounted for by the increase in Asians.

In 2024, A&M is 48.2% white (down from 55.9% in 2018). Asians are 17% in 2024, and 10.6% in 2018.

UT-Austin was 36.7% white in 2018, now down to 27.9% white in 2024.
A big chunk of the increase there is the increase in "unknown" race which presumably is people who chose not to disclose their race on their application or in their paperwork for the university.

I just want the most meritorious to get in, regardless of race, ethnicity or whatever other sub category exists.

Just a hunch- and not to try and be too stereotypical:

The asian community, in general, is known to push their children hard on academics and college admissions

Also, aren't Asian families more likely to remain whole and isnt that a leading indicator and/or theres a high correlation with kids going to college?

I also suspect the recent trends on kids choosing to forgo college who otherwise would go, so much as it exists, is probably led by white males first. I dont think asian students would get support or encouragement to make the same choice, generally speaking.

Totally agree. Merit rules. Whether that's asians, whites, blacks, hispanics.... Amazonian women... I don't care.

Set the standard high and encourage competition to achieve it.

As opposed to dumbing down the standard so that everyone is equal.

So what?

As others have said, college admissions should be based on merit, not race and I''ll add, not gender either.

Now if that 7% are all foreign students, especially from China, then it is a problem.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

No quotas.
Let the best man/woman win.

I too don't care about the racial identity of the AMERICANS gets into college. If any group is concerned, they can work harder, party less and get into the top schools and compete hard with the Asians or whoever.

No leg-up for women either. They aren't any special.

Note: The rules are different for non-Americans. I don't want foreigners flooding American Universities at all. That brings in a whole different set of problems and some countries are gaming the system with their admission consultancies and fake profiles.

No worries, I'm sure white attendance at Asian universities is up! All those white males we told to **** off and die wound up on their feet somewhere else, right?

If whites were displacing natives in their home countries anywhere else on the planet, you'd be screaming about colonialism and genocide.

At the Texas A&M new student conference I went to recently, the speakers were Very Excited about the number of First Generation Students. They had a special lunch and program for them with follow up programs during the school year. I noticed a Surprising number of Asian/ Indian looking students in the group.

I have a question- does anyone actually Verify the claims of First Generation Student? It was Very Clear the admissions success was being judged by the number/ percentage of these students.

Follow up- Would an Applicant Fraudulently claim first generation student to get admission over other applicants?

Is this happening? Who is checking?

I want to see a breakdown of US born students getting preferential treatment in admittance over citizens of any other international university on Planet Earth.

Why is it that we are the only country that has to handicap ourselves this way and give our enemies and people that hate our country access to our elite institutions over our natural born citizens when the criterion is clearly not merit-based.

College of Engineering enrollment has grown substantially with the 25 by 25 campaign. Guess which college has the highest percentage of Asians (hint, it isn't liberal arts).

The other comments made above about nuclear families and emphasis on education over athletics are also major drivers.

I agree with you, but look at where we are, bud.

It hasn't been merit-based in a decade. It's all been politburo admits and our elite institutions are down so bad that they are considering gay communist r*tards as prefered-admits.

White students, in high school, should get off their phones and study courses in science and mathematics.

This is a shocking stat by the way. They've wanted to be a California school in Texas and they are succeeding.

You were probably hearing from someone in the Office for Student Success, which houses the Routh First Gen Center. They are, as their name would suggest, excited for first generation students being on campus.

First Gen status is checked and verified by enrollment services, by verifying application and FAFSA, TASFA, or ISFAA data.

As we get more and more students, especially from the RGV, Laredo, and El Paso regions, you would expect this number to increase as a lot of them are the first in their family to have an opportunity to go to a 4 year college. Also, not all "Asian/Indian looking students" are kids from China, India, Japan, or SK. We have a growing number of south Asian students who's parents or grandparents got here recently.

This is not a bad thing. Giving them a cohort to be in and having advisors that focus on this population helps increase their matriculation rate closer to that of a student who has had parents navigate the in's and out's of college.

If you want to increase the number of white students at TAMU, we should teach our children to get off tik-tok and study and work hard. A lot of suburban white kids are coddled by their high income, college educated parents and think everything should be handed to them like mommy and daddy have done, then the real world hits. Kids who didn't have it easy want to make something better of themselves. Just look at our Ag school and you'll see white kids who didn't grow up with a silver spoon killing it.

This isn't a "race" thing, it's a who will work harder thing.

I don't think there is any verification of racial identify in college application processes. Things could have changed, as it's been about 15 years since I went through the process with my daughter, but I knew more than one of her high school classmates that declared non-white status (most of them doing it as hispanic) in their college applications, even though their ancestors probably stepped off the mayflower and asked for a tee-time and dinner reservation. Even had a very good friend/colleague at work that got his son to do it.

It was virtually impossible to prove than someone was lying, and unless you planned on running for public office at some point in the distant future as a Republican, it never comes back to haunt.

But hey, probably another scam that's been put to bed.
