What are the odds that BAM paid the franchisee for the inventory, which the franchisee didn't own since it was on consignment, with borrowed money that BAM now owes to others that they cannot repay, and that is the source of this whole fiasco? This might be an existential issue for BAM and they are doing everything they can to survive.

dotted i's and crossed t's matter.

Did I miss why the original franchise couple got booted out?

Or was it because they mentioned wanting to move out of the country so BAM just said BYE and got someone else in there?

Did the old man and his son not know how to use E-Bay? They agreed to give up 35% of the proceeds for a consignment deal. That seems like a bad plan. They probably could have set up a booth at Comic-Cons for a few thousand bucks and unload the whole lot quickly.

Selling that much stuff on eBay takes a lot of time and work. eBay takes a good chunk of the sale. And then you have shipping costs.

For several years, I sold large amounts of guitars and related on eBay and had a great side income. But my ability to make any type of profit started to slowly erode and then completely stop sometime around 2008-9.

The last time I looked at the rules and fees it has only gotten worse. Originally, the seller had a reasonable amount of protection that also stopped. Bidders can just decide not to pay and receive no negative consequences wasting time and sometimes money.

It also seems to be the eBay now only works for a few unrelated categories and is now just another outlet for cheap Chinese crap

I've seen this on YouTube a few times.

Sounds like a miss communication that turned ugly.

The franchisee sold to a new owner and left the country. Did they identify in the sales docs what was consigned vs owned?

New owner may have thought they got the deal of a lifetime then learned of the consigned inventory or knew of it, that will be the big question.

Bricks and figs keeps getting trashed in the YouTube videos I saw but unless they purchased the store from the franchisee it wouldn't be on them. Unless they wrote in their franchisee docs steal consigned inventory for major profit which seems unlikely

Former owner and new owner are on video where old owner is explaining the consignment arrangement before new guy took over. She had a detailed list of all the consignment items and told new owner she owed the guy money.

I must have missed it. Where was it proven that they could do consignment?

It's in their franchise agreement

We just know it started with them wanting to sell the franchise so they could move out of the country. I get the feeling there were previous interactions between them and BAM corporate we will never know about.

Now BAM will have to sue AFPD for their blunder.

Everyone involved is shady in some way, BAM, AFPD, Reckless Ben, and the original owners

This really is a wild story. The 2 main videos and the most recent video are worth the watch. The 2 main videos are well on their way to 4 million views each.

The complete incompetence of this police department is nuts. The only real question is if there is anyone pulling strings with the Mormons behind the scenes…. Or just the cops screwed up and their leadership is trying (and failing) to cover it up.

Ignore the couple of silly gags in the first video because if you're interested in legal process and individual rights this is a pretty wacky situation.

True. A piece of art tha consisted of a bare panel with a banana duct taped to it sold for over $6MM at a Sotheby's auction.

If just one of the people involved in all of this was a normal, rational, and honest person none of this probably would have happened. But they are all in the wrong in one way or another it seems which has resulted in this glorious trainwreck.

Popcorn'd for later viewing. This could become a Netflix series in the mold of Breaking Bad or the followup series with the lawyer :-)

This is about where I'm at. I'm seeing this all over my YouTube feed, but it's a rabbit hole I don't think I need to go down. I think the old man with the $200k Lego collection is probably getting screwed, but maybe his family could have found a better social media outlet to address their grievances.

Apparently that was tried and no one cared

The corporation is going to lose because the franchise agreement was leaked and consignment is allowed.

To Ben's credit the gofundme he set up for them is over 300K now. He plans on making them whole. Keep an eye out for that and see if it happens. I have seen him talking about maybe buying the legos from them so that they can get out of the whole ordeal with the money they would have gotten from the consignment.

I guess as long as the old man gets his money.

It's just that Reckless Ben seems to be mostly a troll, doing outrageous stuff to get social media clicks. In this case, he seems to have struck paydirt with a crooked company in cahoots with a crooked police department. More social media clicks, mission accomplished.

I'm just not a the-ends-justify-the-means kind of person.

I thought as part of Ben's small claims court strategy all of the legos have already been sold to Ben and his friends? Or was that faked?

It was just part of the collection. The sets he was raffling off he had to own in order to do the raffle

I seem to recall him talking about $10k chunks of legos being sold to him and his friends so I'm not sure if that was the same deal as for the raffle. Why would he have needed his friends to buy legos for the raffle if they were only raffling off a single set? Unfortunately I don't have time to re-watch the video to clarify...so if you know...thx.

Ahhh...yeah that part was so they could each set up corporations and run the same gimmick that BAM was running so they could actually get into civil court. I am fuzzy on the ins and outs of it but it worked.
