Those infection pictures are gnarly. Made my nose tingle.

Any stats on what the impact has been on Mexico livestock and wildlife so far? Has it been minor, significant or catastrophic?

Here's a bit of a nightmare scenario- what happens when screwworm shows up in the homeless population in a major city like San Antonio, Austin or Houston? I would wager there are a lot more people living outside now than in the 60s-70s when screwworm was a thing.

Excellent point especially the crystal meth drugged down. Zombies aren't even gonna know they're infested.

This will be catastrophic if we don't find a new way to stop it. Sterile fly facilities are behind it and basically we are all ****ed if it kills off whitetail alone. Some say "oh its good, reduce population"... that's the dumbest thing I've heard. All meat prices are already so high. This is primed to be horrific

Sure, but Mexico has a similar livestock market as Texas, including game animals. Since Mexico has been experiencing the screwworm already, have they been devastated or did they somewhat control the damage? I would hope we have a better response, but who knows.

Saw Brooke on CNBC discussing this Monday, politics aside who do you think is right here?

Brooke. Sid is pissed because he lost his primary and is lashing out at the Trump admin.

Yep. Sid cared more about clout than his job. He liked interjecting himself in several instances that he didn't need to be involved in, and was MIA for many instances he did need to be involved in.

Hogs are a bigger problem than deer in my opinion.

I think meat price increases will be more due to people forecasting economic losses than actual economic losses. Futures markets are wild area where speculation drives pricing way more than actual economics in the short and medium term. Look at what the cattle market did when Oprah said she wouldn't eat another hamburger because of mad cow? Markets crashed long before any actual change in demand. Not sure there ever was a change in demand.

It's gnarley and lowers feed efficiency for sure.

Probably. I'm not sure even screwworms can kill a feral hog! All wildlife will be a problem.

It had been eradicated down to Panama. So….Mexico has dropped the ball again? Whodathunkit

Unrestricted livestock movement S -> N in Mexico helped it along.

That's not what I herd.

Is it ok to laugh at the pun, but not the problem? Because I admit it - I laughed.

Yes it is.

Udderly.

So, looks like its migration northward wasn't totally natural.

Had some help from our enemies down south.

New World screwworm returns to US as Mexico cartel routes spread pest | Fox News
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Cartels, but she's owned by them.

Confirmed to be in Andrew's county, it's on the high plains now.

Andrew's county might be closer to Colorado than it is to Mexico
This is not good

And the cartels were enriched by tens of billions of dollars per year by the deliberate border policies of the Biden administration seeking to both kill Americans and import vast swaths of Central/South American populations via trafficking.

The costs will continue to be paid for decades.

I am not concerned about killing feral hogs. The feral hogs will serve as a reservoir for the flies and make it hard to eradicate.
