Wtf is the faculty senate empowered to do? I thought it was like the "employee engagement council." No power and just get to be the voice of complaints that never get addressed?

If they have power, we should dissolve and fire one for good measure.

I believe the article said that Auburn was copying Texas public universities. Did I misunderstand that?

This only really has value if the board is materially more conservative than the faculty. Our Board of Regents has picked a long stream of poor university presidents, so I don't know if this would be an improvement or not.

What are faculty senates good for?

Make the Faculty Senate an Employee Advisory Council and include janitors, support staff, cops, groundskeepers, etc.
Limit the total number to 51 employees.
What could go wrong?

Normally when a thread title is should A&M do this, it is a horrible idea.

This one is the exception. Absolutely take back control of curriculum from what always seemed to be a liberal arts led group of professors that want to force a lot of worthless classes that only served to give them job security. I remember the original core curriculum enacted in the late 1980s/early 90s that was a joke.

ETA. The latest core curriculum with a bunch of low/no value classes. At least they now require some science and math but I wouldn't exactly call Algebra a tough math subject for a college student or the World has a drinking problem as a real science class.

The faculty senate at TAMU was about academic standards, that was before the "studies" programs were formed. The faculty senate was dissolved last year due to issues that were not academically related.
