I was browsing TexAgs and stumbled across some threads discussing Avant Garde College Prep. As I read through them, I realized just how much has changed since my time at A&M. It's gotten significantly harder to get in, especially if your kiddo is at a super competitive high school.

My daughter has straight A's, plenty of AP classes/ honors coursework,, but she's not in the top 10% of her class at our extremely competitive high school. Honestly, I always assumed she'd have no problem getting into A&M, but after doing some digging, it became clear she wasn't a "sure thing."

That's when we decided to get Robb from Avant Garde to work with her on her essay. He and his team provided some great suggestions and helped guide her through a process that allowed her to highlight her accomplishments more effectively. The final essay? A night-and-day improvement. It still incorporated her own ideas, but in a more polished and impactful way.

After the essay, we decided to tackle the SAT. My daughter hadn't done any formal SAT prep before, and after discussion with Robb we felt that a month of prep and a final attempt at increasing her SAT could be of benefit. After looking at her previous scores and the specific areas where she scored lower, Robb and his team conducted about 15 one-on-one sessions with her. She ended up increasing her score by 150 points in that short time. Pretty incredible, considering the limited prep window!

I wanted to share our experience because it really paid off. Not only did my daughter get into A&M (whoop!), but thanks to Robb's help, she now has scores that put her in the upper quartile for tu as wellso I'm bracing for those acceptance letters too. Maybe Robb did too good of a job? Ha.

If you're a parent with high school students, I'd highly recommend taking a closer look at the admission requirements for their target schools to see where they stand. And if they need a boost, Robb and his team at Avant Garde are worth checking out. We're so thankful for their help, and we're thrilled to have another Aggie in the family!

Robb is awesome, he helped my son immensely! The results so far have been great, he's going to have some wonderful options both in acceptances and scholarships.

A lot of folks don't understand the value of a service like his. He doesn't write a paper for you or make you smarter. He just coaches and gives great advice and guides. He understand the SAT/ACT extremely well and can make your studying much more efficient. His pricing is also very reasonable for what he provides and he's a great Ag.

He can't put anything there for your kid that wasn't there already but he can certainly help them get the most out of what they have. College admissions is a complex game and having a coach really helps to guide you through the process and help you to get the best results. The sooner you engage with him the more he can help you.

My daughter is in 8th grade so we are just now starting to dig into this process. Everything is so different than when her mom and I enrolled at A&M in the fall of 1999. A little overwhelming to be honest.

Just looked up Avant Garde and looks like they are located in CS. We live in Dallas. Are a lot of people doing the virtual option they provide or do people travel to CS to meet in person? Trying to figure out the best option for those of us that don't live in the CS area. Thanks!

We live in Austin and the virtual option worked great for my son, especially with him having a very busy schedule. We did come down and meet with Robb a few times as well but the real work was done by Zoom. You are wise to engage early even if it is just for some advice and guidance, I know my son made a few scheduling mistakes that we didn't realize Freshman year before we met Robb but his advice really put him on the right track later on. It's about getting the most out of what you have and I have no doubt that my son did and the end result was better than we could have dreamed. I have no doubt my son would have still done well on his own but I also have no doubt that my son would not have earned a full ride scholarship without Avant Garde. Can't guarantee those types of results but it made a huge impact working with Robb with a much improved SAT, excellent rigor, a strongly themed EC resume, and outstanding essays.

Make no mistake either, if you aren't using folks like Robb to help your kid realize that most top students are so you are putting your kid at a disadvantage. In some ways I hate that's how the system works now but that's simply the reality.

Glad the virtual sessions worked so well. My daughter also has a pretty busy schedule so this along with a few in person visits seem like a great option. Not sure if it's too early only just starting 8th grade but we will contact Robb and see what he says.

I hear ya on this is just how it is now. Not a fan either but don't want to put my daughter at any sort of a disadvantage. Especially with A&M capping the enrollment for the next 5-7 yrs supposedly (great timing for my kid). Glad you guys had such good results. Thank you very much for the detailed reply, I really appreciate it!
