My son who is in the Mays program will be coming home this summer. He plans to take 2 classes at either HCC or Lonestar (will decide this week and register). He's talked to his Mays counselor for the green light on what to take, will transfer back to his degree plan, etc. so that is done. I believe only credits transfer back not grades, so his GPA won't be impacted one way or the other.

He's debating between a mini-mester for one of the courses and the other will be the second summer, traditional one. I assume the steer is to just sure he passes the class with a C or better. He'll be working and chasing girls, so I don't expect he'll be as serious as he is up at A&M.

Thanks in advance for any advice on anything I may be missing.

When I was in school, only the credits transferred and not the grades which is consistent with your post.

That said, I wouldn't necessarily encourage your kid to just make a C. If your kid wants to go to an elite grad school program in the future, they'll have to fork over all transcripts, which would show those Cs from a community college to the admissions committee.

Get the girls and the As. Problem solved

Yes, it won't count to his A&M GPA, but as mentioned, if he ever ends up having grad school plans, it will show up there. So I would say be careful with the "C's get degrees" thoughts there.

he can check Howdy.tamu.edu or the TCCNS to ensure course equivalency before enrolling in a course.
