We live in Overland Park, KS and supposedly the top district in the state (Blue Valley School District).

We do not have class rank….its not kept at all and not even an option under the table to know.

We have 5.0 scale and Cum Laude, Magna, and Summa that you find out after 1st semester Sr year.

How will this affect a very high performing student with high test scores? My oldest son scores 99% nationally on all tests and is entering 8th grade, but goes to high school for Honors Geometry…he's been a grade above in math since 5th grade.

My understanding is that it forces colleges to evaluate each student holistically. Our private school doesn't rank students. Well, they rank top 10% because of auto admit but otherwise, no rankings provided.

Class rank penalizes students in areas with high academics and rewards those in areas with less competitive academics.

My daughter's grades would be first quarter in 90% of the schools in Texas but she's 2nd quarter. The out of state schools don't care about class rank. She'll get in and get good money but she is penalized at A&M and tu.

My friends daughter was 4% and didn't get her major at tu. She had a really good shot to be Valedictorian at many schools in Texas, but not at our school.

My graduating year and the year before it, the valedictorian of my high school (in username) didn't get their major at tu, wild stuff.
